dd was diagnosed with her first UTI at 20 months - but i feel that she has had 'issues' for some time now- she is being tested with a VCUG and renal ultrasound in 3 weeks (dr said we had to wait until the UTI is completely gone before the tests are done)  She was treated with Bactrim for the 10 day course & seemd to get better quickly - appetite picked up, good mood, sleeping through the night - then 3 days after the meds were done she has seemed to go back to the old, sick seeming type of child.  (and to top it all off picked up the stomach bug along with DH & ds in the midst of all this) - we will be doing another urine culture tomorrow.

Im wondering if anyone whos dc has been diagnosed with this can tell me what their child was like before being diagnosed, as Im trying to figure out what is going on with dd - it is agony having to wait the 3 weeks to get confirmation.

what led you to the diagnoisis?  how old was your dc?  what was his/her appetite like & what was his/her weight?  what was your child's demeanor/personality?  did your child show any symptoms of this early on?  when was the first UTI diagnosed?  and what did you have to do based on the results of your diagnosis?

Im sorry for all the questions - it seems hard to find much good information out there on the condition.  Especially for those natural minded mamas who fear giving thier children antibiotics for a long period of time.

DD has had poor weight gain basically her whole life, yet was born a big baby in the 95th % - now at 20 months is in the 4th % for weight.  We have been referred to a pediatric feeding clinic & they have us on a behavior plan for refusal to eat - she never has had a good appetite, but nurses quite frequently.  I am reluctant to put the behavior plan into place because I feel that something is going on with her medically (quite possibly urinary reflux) - and I dont want to push her to eat if she truly is not feeling well.  I have read stories of other children who, after the profilactic antibiotic treatment or surgery, gain weight rapidly.

Thank you for any info you could give me!
