I'm considering a veg/vegan month for us! A new hispanic grocer called compare foods has moved in up the street and their produce section just...rocks...! It's huge, filled to the brim with fruits, veggies, greens, fresh herbs, exotic roots, dried chilis, just beautiful stuff. And sooo cheap! And the turns on this stuff are amazing, I swear there is a line for the tomatoes, every time I've been there are at least 3 stockers working like madmen to put more out.
Â
What I bought sunday:
2 lbs roma tomatoes
2 lbs carrots
2 lbs mexican squash (calabacitas)
3 bunches baby spring onions
1 bunch basil
1 bunch parsley
1 big bag each turnip greens, mustard, collards, kale
1 pineapple
10 limes
3 mangoes
4 avocados
8 lbs potatoes
mixed bag of dried chilis
5 heads garlic
2Â lbs green beans
1 head romaine lettuce
2 bunches spinach
5 lbs dried pink beans
1 lb dried chickpeas
10 lbs rice
Â
and I s* you not, this cost me a whopping $38.00!
Â
With this cheap bounty, plus a couple loaves of bread, we could eat like kings!!!!! yipee!
