Do you love your kids' scooter? Need Ride-on scooter recommendations for a toddler!

Thread Starter

Does anyone have any recommendations for a little ride-on scooter for a toddler?  My daughter is nearly 16 months old, and my MIL gave her this Disney Princess scooter/activity center thing that she can ride on.  It has a steering wheel and she can scoot along, there is also a little compartment in the seat that she can put stuff in.  In theory, it's loads of fun, but I absolutely hate it.  At first I hated it because of the pink/princess angle and the media tie-in, not to mention the cheap plastic.  But I tolerated it because it seemed so fun for my daughter.  Now, however, we've had multiple incidents of her falling off it inexplicably and hitting her head on the wall or floor.  I'm guessing it is poorly designed or just not weighted properly.  We must get rid of it.

So....anyone have one they can recommend?  I think my ideal scooter would be wood, natural, etc., but open to any ideas.

Thanks!

not a scooter but a bike:

My 15 month-old loves his big sisters which is very similar, although he is a tad too small still to ride it by himself.

Also razor makes a 3 wheel skooter, with a broader place to stand, but it might be too big for a little one and is better towards 20, 24 months.

Honestly, all of the skooters that a child stands on and pushes are kind of unstable.  The balancing bike seems a little better designed in that area...

we have a little tykes 3-in-one that you can turn from a riding toy to a scooter when they're bigger. it's plastic but just primary colors so it's not so obnoxious. i think it'll last for years.

i do know from daycare that the little tykes lawnmower is super unstable and tips all teh time.

but i love teh riding toy cause she's loved it so much from even before her feet reached the floor.

We have the Radio Flyer scoot about that tzs linked above. Ds is only 14 months and so he's still not quite proficent with it but he loves it. I also love the size and the adjustable seat so hopefully we'll get a lot of time on it before he moves on to pedaling. It seems really stable from side to side and he can already get his leg over the back of it to get on and off.

Radio Flyer also has a tiny trike model with more wood. I saw it in a baby boutique and it is much smaller than the scoot about. I don't think it would get as much riding time before being outgrown.

We have a Wheely Bug, and it's great.  I like how the wheels go all directions.  makes it easier for them to scoot on.  They make two sizes.  We got the big one when our daughter was 10 months - too young for it yet - she's almost 3 and she finally rides it really well now.  So maybe the smaller size would be better for your daughter.  I know what you mean about the pink plastic!

Radio Flyer makes a small wooden push trike that is well reviewed. We have a wheely bug too and I like it but bought the larger size and it is way to big for our tall 18m DS. We also have an Italtrike which is great, durable, but really heavy.

We have a plasma car.  Its really great. I like that it holds up to 220 pounds (so yes you can get on it too!) its very smooth riding.  I like that you can use your feet when they are younger but when they get older they can do the twisting of the handle to make it go.

It does not work well on carpet though.
