Potty training and WOH FT

So...when do I do it?

I've been given one of those 3 day potty training programs, which sounds good, but my question is...what happens when DD goes back to daycare. She's there from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.I don't see her till I get home at 5:45 p.m.

When do I potty train her?

How do I follow through at the daycare, when there are 7 other children in her group? Her DCP is rather, er, clueless about these things (new guy, real young, not so bright).

Ideally you should be working together with your DCP about it.  If you aren't comfortable talking to your DD's direct provider, is there someone else at the centre you can talk to about their normal routine with a potty training child?  Even if you do manage to train at home, they are going to have to continue your work at daycare.

When I had a home daycare I just followed parents' lead.  When they decided to start training I just made sure they brought in several changes of clothes and I made sure to give the child lots of opportunities to try.  I generally suggest just skipping the pull ups, except for sleeping, and to just use underwear - IME kids tend to just use the pull up as a diaper.

I would probably start on a weekend so that hopefully by Monday she will be getting the hang of it.  Or if you can wait until a long weekend that might be even better.  But no matter what, this really shouldn't be the first time your daycare has ever dealt with potty training so they should have some suggestions for you too.
