5 weeks, craving tuna fish - substitutions?

Someone at a lunch meeting had a tuna sandwich.  I haven't eaten tuna for years, and haven't wanted to eat it.  But, today, it smelled really good.  I don't want to eat tuna while pregnant.  What other fish can I substitute?  I remember someone saying that boneless, skinless sardines or anchovies or something worked reasonably well as a substitute, but I can't find it - and would that canned fish have bpa in it?

Is there any canned fish I can get at a typical grocery store without bpa, mercury, or dioxin problems?

Canned sardines taste similar to tuna to me, and they are safe - even healthy, during pregnancy. I made an avocado sardine toast from the Good Eats show on Food Network last week. It was divine!
If you crave tuna salad, just try canned chicken. It might take the edge off the craving.

If you want tuna salad, Costco has canned turkey that turns into a really good "salad" for sandwiches. Not sure if you eat poultry, but I have subbed this quite a bit this pg. It's not fish but it's good!

You can get cans of wild Alaskan salmon that are really good. I mash it up with mayo/onions/pickles and anything else you'd put with tuna. The flavor is a little different from tuna but it's good!

The cans are lined in BPA. I would just buy the stuff in pouches (although I have eaten canned tuna this pregnancy). Light tuna is ok in moderation in pregnancy, but they also sell the wild Alaskan salmon (tuna-style, so no bones or skin) in pouches. I like the salmon, although it is definitely a different flavor than tuna, and I know for myself, it probably wouldn't satisfy the tuna craving...

I was craving tuna early too. I had maybe 3 sandwiches at that time. My theory is everything in moderation. Luckily, that craving didn't last long.

I to had this same problem. I have about 5 tuna sanwiches while pregnant with light tuna. As long as your moderate about it I don't think it will hurt.  Try sardines I agree they are similar to tuna.

kokipelli- can you share that recipe it sounds great!

I like salmon, but that won't take care of the tuna fish craving. I'll have to try the sardines in a pouch.  Anyone know for sure that the pouches don't have bpa?

From what I've found in searching, the pouches should be BPA free... It would make sense that they are, since BPA makes plastics hard, and the pouches aren't hard...
