'Milk' question

I had posted this message in the breastfeeding section but thought that I may get some replies here.

I am still nursing my 20 month old son which I hope to continue until he turns 2 years old.  Somedays he nurses 5 times a day, somedays 8.  I work from home 2 days a week and all along he has been looked after at home so I have had no problems with nursing as we nurse during my breaks.  It looks like I am going to have to have him cared for outside the home one day a week and I am so stressed!  He would miss 3 feedings on this one day a week.  I do not want to wean him yet.  He has not yet had any other milk other than breastmilk and I was hoping to avoid cow milk and start supplementing a few feeds when he turns 2 with almond milk.  This plan would be fine on the other 6 days a week but I have no idea what to do on the one day that he is away from me.  Being away from me will be a big change for him as well.

All help/suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

How much solids does he eat? Can he use a cup? Have you tried pumping?

Thanks for responding.  He eats lots of solids and can use a straw sippy cup.  I stopped pumping 5 months ago as I was not getting much from pumping as I was when I first started.  Thanks again!

At 20 mos and eating lots of solids, he wont starve during the day. You can try pumping and sending a cup of milk for him, or you can send a cup of your preferred non-momma's milk (cow, goat, coconut, hemp, almond). But i would really emphasise the solids while you're apart, the milk is comfort/back-up.

This also seems reasonable to me.  Just let him tank up before seperating and be ready for him to want to nurse as soon as you return.  Good luck!

My DS is 22 months, still BFing, although mostly just around nap & bedtime now.  I started working part-time outside the home when he was ~18mos.  DP stays home with him when I'm gone.  I've never left any BM for him & he doesn't drink any other milk.  He just eats solids & drinks water while I'm gone.  He still nurses when he needs to when I'm home.  At the beginning, he usually wanted to nurse as soon as he saw me when I got home & I'd offer it right before I left.  He was nursing more frequently when he was 18mos than he is now.

It all worked out just fine & DS hasn't ever gone hungry.  I hope the same happens for you!
