Okay, so the terrible flu/fever/stomach bug of february :)

My daughter, 6 y, had a 104-105 fever for 5 days, completely out of it, vomited for the first 3 days.

Now fever has almost disapeared and now she has a horrible cough (sounds like she can't breathe in between coughs). Not a constant cough, worse at night.

Finally broke down went to Doc yesterday, they said just a bad flu, tested for strep, negative. Usual not a lot of help.

Now I thought we were getting over it and all of a sudden she is randomly breaking out in big patchy itchy rash in several parts of her body. They are white and raised and red around the are. Has anyone experienced this type of thing after a long week of high fever? The one that appeared last night suddenly vanished after a 40 minute bath. Gone. Any thoughts/ideas/diagnoses suggestions?

My dd has had a bad virus, too, originally had a high fever, then came the cough, and most recently an acute earache from the congestion - this has been over the last two weeks.

Anyway, hives are often caused by viruses and I would guess that's what the rash was.

I agree with Deditus it sounds like your daughter broke out in hives. Without seeing the patches noone really knows for sure. I would look up images of hives and see if they look similar. The most common reason why people break out in hives is an allergic reaction but I got them really bad all over when I was completely stressed out and couldnt sleep. When I got them in 2004 my mom suggested an oatmeal bath which is her cure for anything bumpy or rashy on the skin. If it is an allergic reaction you can give her a child's antihistamine and that will help. The oatmeal bath did help though.

Thank you mamas for your replies~I took her back to doc today so I could get the go ahead to take her back to school as she was gettin pretty down. Overnight the rashes that completly covered her body and face, were gone. They said it is most likely the end reaction to the virus, which they also added they thought was H1N1. Well glad we got that over with:)
