Mayan Abdominal Massage for fertility

Thread Starter

Hi all,  I was wondering if anyone has tried this and had success.  I found someone within 15 minutes of my who specializes in this form of massage.  I also wanted to know if it would hurt?  I read that it could also be used to break up c-section scar tissue.   I had a section back in 2008 and I still have sensitivity in the incision area.  I'm ttc my second child and have had no luck, so far.  It's been over a year.

Thank you, thank you!

I posted a  thread about this in '11 in this forum.  There were also a few old threads that were helpful.  I haven't found the real thing yet but would love to hear how your massage goes!

I'm going for my first session this Wednesday (the 16th), Fingers crossed for NO SNOW, as my original appt had to be canceled due to bad weather. I'll let you know how it goes. I hope it doesn't hurt! We are TTC #1, but I have heard that it is good for cesarean scars. When are you scheduled for? I read the best time to go is right after menstruation, it isn't recommended in the 2WW.

As far as I'm aware there isn't any evidence that this 'treatment' actually works. I wouldn't waste my cash.

I'll be happy if it even reduces cramping during AF. But, there is a lot of belief that yes you- can- conceive with a malpositioned uterus, however, if you are ttc and it just isn't working, who is to say that isn't the problem. I'm 25, 5'8 and 130 lbs, I have a 12 day LP, normal temps, I eat healthy, I exercise, my husband has healthy sperm-- we have friends and family was worse off popping up pregnant all the time. I go to acupuncture weekly, I pray. If this is even what may change anything, it is worth every penny

My completely anecdotal experience- in fall of '07 I spent a month studying yoga in Thailand. This was before having any intention of starting a family anytime soon. There was this amazing massage place nearby where I stayed, where I went often and developed a rapport with the owner and two of the massage therapists. They provided these incredible, massages, and for some reason they really focused on my abdomen. They would giggle and tell me that I'd be a good mother someday and work on me all over, but really did stuff to my belly. I asked them once, they said they were 'moving things around', I always felt incredible the next day so just let them do their thing. I left Asia a week early to surprise DH for his birthday. I should not have been ovulating, though I wasn't charting- on birth control at the time. I got pregnant immediately. When we found out, the first thing that popped into my head was those little Thai ladies, climbing onto my belly and digging into acupressure points with their toes and telling me I'd be a good mother someday. I swear, they did something in there! Now, I've read a lot about this Mayan abdominal massage and have one friend who's had it done (for PCOS)- and I know it's not the same thing, but I do think it's pretty similar. And call me crazy, but I definitely, at least partially, credit those ladies with having conceived my son.

Again, I know it's not the same thing, but I do think what the did was similar to the descriptions of the Mayan technique I've now read about, and from my experience it hurt the way deep massage or acupressure hurts; I really like that kind of massage so didn't find it particularly painful, just something you have to really breathe through. (Nothing like bad menstrual cramps, so if there's a chance it might relieve those, it's worth it.)
