Bringing your own containers to restaurants?

Does anyone bring their own reusable containers for left-overs when you eat out at restaurants?  I'd rather not use styrofoam or plastic disposable ones they give you the left-overs in...

I've always wanted to do this, but DH thinks it's embarrassing.  My argument is that it's the same as bringing your own reusable bags when shopping (which we always do), and that it may have been a bit weird years ago, but someone has to start the trend before it becomes mainstream.

I have not, but I would like to buy some of those stainless steel tiffen containers so that I could do it. We have glass containers, but I'd rather not take those out and about.   I wouldn't feel weird at all at most places that we go to.  We don't go to many high end restaurants. I think it would be pretty cool.

I have thought about this too, but I feel kind of weird about it, not sure why.  We do bring our own (stainless, collapsible) chopsticks to asian restaurants so people already think we're weird.winky.gif

Huh. Not sure why I have never thought of this before! I have reusable bags stuffed everywhere - in the car, my purse, diaper bag, etc... but it never even crossed my mind to bring my own "take out" containers. We have a stainless set of bento boxes that I am sure would work wonderfully.

Thanks for the idea! blowkiss.gif

i don't think it's weird at all!  i always plan on bringing my own container but almost always forget.  (i used to always forget the reusable shopping bags too until i had the fold up ones to stash in my purse).  what i think must look weirder is when i just put my daughter's leftover quesadilla into my bag because i refuse to use the styrofoam for one little slice... i try to be sneaky about it because that to me is a little embarrassing:)

I always do and the staff generally tells me that it's cool to do it.  Go me!  It's not a big deal to just stick something in my purse and take it out when there's food left over.
