How out of line am I? Used Car, As Is!

I went and got a used Van from a dealership. The paperwork was very clear, AS IS. However I found the van online and it stated it had a DVD player in it, but then I got it home, while it had the screen built in, no DVD player to be found...

 Am I SOL?

Add some fun to this, the dealership left their PLATE in the vans back window, not the paper 30 day one, but a real one. They called and want us to mail it back as they know we live near 3 hours away. I asked then if he could look into the DVD thing and call me back, that was on Monday, he has not called back. I have not yet mailed the plate back...

 What would you do?

If they stick to the AS IS part of this, as in I am out the DVD player, does that mean AS IS I get to do with the plate as I see fit? LOL (Not use it legally of course but maybe turn it into the DMV and let them deal with that fun?)

I have not gotten the van inspected here, (We are in a different state than I got the van from) and so I am thinking about calling them about this AFTER I see how that goes. Just in case.... The guy said he would work with me if it does not pass inspection here but the paper work is clear that he has to do no such thing.

Since it's a dealership, I'd push them on it. Usually they want repeat customers, so they at least *try* to work with you a little... or pay lip service to it. LOL Beyond that, though, you may well be SOL... It's probably not even worth the money it'd cost you to consult a lawyer about it or anything. That said, maybe take it over to a car audio kind of place and see how hard/expensive it'd be to put one in, if you want it that bad? It may not even cost you as much as the gas to get back to that dealership (3 hours away??) and back.

I wouldn't return the plates until I got the player, if the van is supposed to have a player.

i would put bad reviews on there website till they dealt with the problem. i did that once and it worked wonders

Well, I bought a new car once, and it didn't have what it was supposed to have on it, but... the deal was already said and done, and since it wasn't that big of an issue (input audio jack) I just had to get over it.

I would try repeatedly calling the dealership, and maybe as a last resort going the terrible internet review route.  Also, are you still driving with their plate?  If they were feeling really nasty, they might be able to report it as stolen.  But I don't think I would send it back until they resolved the issue- and then make them pay the shipping for it.

Nope, not driving with their plate, we have the 30 day temp plates at the moment.

The AD online said it came with a DVD player so I think that should count for something but again, I could be wrong. The kids are a bit annoyed that they can see a screen but that the screen is not hooked up to anything. As one Mama said though I might be able to get this fixed for less than Gas would cost to get down to the dealership!

I wonder when they will call about their plate again?

what kind of van is it? dh and I were putting dvd's in the mp3 player until we realized that the dvd player was in the screen/headrest unit. Each passenger could watch their own dvd.

I almost bought a used Honda Oddysey with a built in DVD player. Neither the dealership people or I could figure out where the actual player was though. I think we figured it out that it was under one of the seats or it was a part of the cd player and you just needed to switch the mode. Either way I didn't get the car but I remember it took us all a few hours to figure out where the player was so I wouldn't give up on that just yet.

First i would google your van and figure out where the dvd player is supposed to be, if there is a screen, there is a dvd player...somewhere.  Second i would tell them to send me a prepaid label for the tag, i wouldnt pay to send it back

What type of van is it?  Ours has the DVD player at the bottom of the console below the radio (almost to the floor).  Another van we looked at, the DVD was inserted above the screen (almost on the ceiling).  Another van we looked at had the DVD player in the bottom of the console between the driver's and passenger seat.  If you have the owner's manual, it should show you where to put the DVD.

I would look again for the location of the DVD. I've owned a Toyota  Sienna and a Honda Odyssey and if there is a built in screen there must be a DVD player. The odyssey has it up front below the drink holders in the console. The sienna's was above the screen.

The wires for the screen come out under the passenger seat and hook up to a black box there and it has no OUT wires leading to anything....

We have been called the dealership over and over the last few weeks and they said they could not find it, that if they do they will let us know. They STILL have not mailed us the title and we need it by the 4th as the temp plates we have run out then... they swear it will go in the mail today. I think they have been holding out for us to return the plate to them. A mess this is!
