Fever only at night & lip injury

The last 2 nights ds (11.5 months)  has had a fever (~101.5)  The fever has only been at night...with lots of trouble sleeping and whining/crying, and some crankiness during the day.

What's got me perplexed is that his fever started about 4 hrs or so after an injury he had Wed. evening.  He fell and hit the coffee table...tooth punctured right below his lower lip.  (called dr. and was told to just keep it clean and it will heal on its own...the cut was small)

I know that I need to watch out for infection  (& that fever is a sign)...but it doesn't look infected...I've been rinsing it on both sides with warm sea salt water after meals.  ...and if it were infected, wouldn't it take more than 4 hrs for infection and fever to happen anyway?

Do you think the fever and cut could even be related, or just coincidence?

Any advice/thoughts?

I will ask his doctor too, but they're having a high call volume right now, so I thought I'd give it an hour or so and call back.

Is he teething at all?

I'm no expert, but that's not a very high fever. Maybe it's due to pain and being upset from the fall.

Were you able to get through to the doc?

I would bet the two things (fever and fall) are unrelated. I know my little ones tend to have fevers at night and be fine during the day when they've caught a virus. I hope he feels better soon!

Thanks ladies.

Well I talked to the pediatrician's office.  They also think the 2 things are unrelated and that it's either from teething or that his immune system is fighting something.  She said that they typically let fevers at that temp go for 3 days...so tomorrow morning I'm supposed to call if he still has a fever so they can check him out.  Other than that I'm just supposed to push fluids a bit, and maybe give tylenol if it gets in the 102 range,,,and call if it hits 103.  Tonight does seem to be going a lot better than last night, so that's a good sign.  Oh, and she said that fevers can tend to elevate after 4-8pm.
