Overjoyed to announce our new baby boy joined us at 5:44 pm on February 10, 2011, tipping the scales at 8 lb, 14 1/2 oz and 19" long! Everyone is healthy, doing great and crazy about one another. Pictures, birth story and hopefully a name to follow - we're having a hard time with that last part!

And, introducing in his grand Internet debut - Eliot Theoden!

His birth was amazing!  We had tried an induction on Sunday - Tuesday, without much success - even after a Foley catheter, I was dilated to barely 3 cm and about 70% effaced.  So, we went home, and planned to wait for me to go into labour on my own.  On Wednesday, at home, I took my blood pressure, and it was 159/111.  Thursday morning, it was still running 150/100's, and when I called my doctor, she and I agreed that we weren't comfortable with those pressures and decided the time had come for a cesarean while baby and I were both healthy and strong!  We decided to come in that afternoon and meet her at the hospital.  All the pre-op stuff went the way it usually does, but once I was prepped and everyone came in, we dimmed the lights and had some of our favorite music playing.  His head came out, then my doctor slowed down, letting him bring his own shoulders and arms, and she held him there to allow my uterus to contract a couple of times and help him clear fluid from his lungs.  Then, she handed him to a nurse, who put him directly onto my chest, where he stayed for the rest of the surgery.  The cord was allowed to stop pulsing before it was clamped.  Eliot was calm, alert and looking around the whole time, with apgars of 9/9.  Everyone in the room was calm, and quiet, and it was absolutely wonderful!  I'm thrilled with the experience - it was a medically necessary cesarean, but an incredibly gentle and joyous birth and a wonderful way to welcome my son into the world.  We are feeling so blessed :).

Wow, those pictures are amazing, I can sense how strong your connection is to him and how peaceful the birth was for both of you love.gif  That is so awesome that even though you ended up having the c-section, it was such an incredible, rewarding experience...brings tears to my eyes wink1.gif  Speaking of eyes, his are very deep & captivating...very aware little guy.
