Finding a homeschool community

Where do I look to find out which areas of regions of the country have good, strong homeschooling communities?  (or can I find that out here?  winky.gif)  The region we are wanting is southern colorado/northern new mexico.....

It doesn't need to be a LARGE group, just something strong and steady.  Secular is important, as we aren't really religious.

I don't even know how to find this info out!!  Where we are at now is seriously lacking in this way, and it an important consideration for our next move.  Where do I go to figure this out??

I found our homeschooling groups by googling our city's name and the word homeschool. Maybe you can look at cities you're interested in a do the same. Or just start with the state and homeschool. I just did that with colorado and got 830,000 links.

Try searching Yahoo! Groups too. That's what the HSing groups around here seem to use.

Thanks for the replies.  I've googled lots, it's just hard to wade through all of the non-relevant links, I guess.  I did just think of checking the yahoo groups.

Also, it's hard to google specific town/city names when we really want to turn it around....we aren't looking for groups in one specific town, but rather looking for where this is a good active group, and picking a town based upon that.

I mainly checked here and on yahoo groups. FWIW - the TwinCities are VERY homeschool friendly if you can handle the cold, lol!

Are there any other limitations - needs to be close to a metro area, good food access, philosophical vax exemptions, raw milk legal, cost of living, poisonous snakes, weather/climate, proximity to family, natural resources? I used a LOT of parameters to define my search when we moved.
