Hi all,
I have a basic understanding of homeopathy as I have taken a basic course on the subject. I have used remedies on myself over the past few years but it was always pretty straightforward and I could tell when things were or weren't working. So now I have a 9 month old son and am trying to help him with his teething by using homeopathics. I find I'm not sure what to do in some respects and am hoping someone has wisdom to share!
Â
I have done the analysis of his symptoms and have come up with 2 remedies in particular that seem to match his symptoms - calc-c and silicea. Mind you, we have also tried the hyland's teething gel and the boiron teething remedies. the boiron blend has no effect on him. the hylands is helpful when he is trying to fall asleep and is very restless because of the pain. but recently he's started with diarrhea which I can only attribute to teething. He is also very slow to teeth - only has 2 teeth which he has gotten a month apart. it's been a month since his last tooth and he's been teething pretty fiercely since then - chewing, biting, drooling, chin rash, runny nose, diarrhea, very poor sleep. his poor gums are swollen and it looks as though he will get quite a few teeth in the next while, but they're just not breaking through.

so I have both remedies in house (calc-c and silicea). My temptation is to give him both every day and hope for the best. here are my main questions, but any suggestions or advice would be helpful!
- I gave him the calc-c for a few days and the diarrhea settled. I stopped giving it (as I believe you are supposed to only give the remedy when symptoms exist) and the diarrhea has returned. Since teething is a condition that isn't going to stop until the teeth arrive (vs running its course as a cold would), do I just give him the remedy daily as long as it seems he is actively teething?
- is it ok to give him both remedies daily or should I stick to one and then the other if the first doesn't seem to have an effect? I know Hahnemann recommended that you only give one remedy at a time, but remedies are often blended nowadays. also, the hyland's gel seems to help when he is very restless at nap/night-time. any harm in giving him some at this time when he needs it? (in addition to the other remedy(ies))
- what's people's experience with peppermint and remedies? I also am a fan of herbalism and sometimes give him a bit of tea to settle his belly. peppermint is such a great herb for this but I wonder if it's counterproductive. I know mints are considered counterproductive, but what's reasonable in terms of time between them?

thanks! any help would be appreciated.
