substitute for tortilla chips for dipping & nachos?

DH really like tortilla chips for a snack.  He likes to dip them and also makes a lot of nachos.  Any suggestions on a healthier alternative to tortilla chips?

What part of corn tortillas are you deeming as unhealthy? That would help when trying to suggest.

As long as it's made with masa and done in a good oil, they're fine.  They're really easy to make at home if you need to go that route.  They're also super-cheap if you have a good source of corn tortillas.

I haven't seen any good brands in the stores around here, but if anyone has suggestions on a good one I'll definitely look for it.

Mostly objecting to the oils that they're fried in.  I'd be ok with high oleic sunflower oil tortilla chips if one exists.  Or one friend in olive oil or palm oil or coconut oil...

If it's just the oil, you can fry them yourself. They are so much better freshly fried. That is what I do.

Ard. beat me to it.  Make your own, they are so easy!  If the oil (fat) is whats worrying you make baked ones which are even easier than frying.

Now I have a hankering for nachos......

The best homemade tortilla chips come from homemade crepes. Really! They're thin and fry up nice and crispy. I do chips from tortillas too, but those end up more thick and like bagel chips. Frying oils could be coconut oil, lard or tallow. For the crepes, I use a couple recipes: sprouted flour, soaked flour or sourdough, depending on what works best for the time and what's on hand.

Here's my recipe/technique (using the sourdough crepes, but it is much the same if you use another crepe recipe). You can even do corn crepes!
