Lets talk about supplements!!

Ok, so I'm having a bit of trouble remembering from last time what supplements to take and when.  I know last time I did a lot with RRL tea, magnesium, EPO, GFSE, and a few other things.  This time I seem to have very little time to research and spend time reading online.  So I thought maybe we could share our supplement regimen with each other to get ideas on what we're doing?

Right now I'm just taking my prenatal, DHA, and occasionally some extra D and B12.

What are you all taking/doing/drinking?

I'm just taking the prenatal, DHA, and extra iron since I become anemic very easily. Towards the end I will start taking some EPO, and possibly black and blue cohosh starting the last month. I'll start with a quarter does and up it each week until the full dose the last week of pregnancy. I think it really helped my cervix and uterus get ready for birth with my second and third babies. Both of them were born the day after their due date(and I went in to labor the night on my due date). My first was over a week late, so I think it helped. I try to drink the RRL tea, but I'm not really a tea drinker, so it's hard.

I'm taking D3 every day and floradix fairly regularly. Was taking a B complex sometimes until it started gagging me going down so I stopped. Was also taking CLO but haven't been able to stomach even thinking of it since about 6 weeks. Maybe at some point I will start taking it again. Nettle infusion when I feel like it, which hasn't been that often. Once I get to the 3rd trimester I plan to start drinking rrl tea at some point and drinking nettle infusions regularly. Also hoping to improve my diet soon if my appetite ever returns to normal orngtongue.gif

I can barely stomach anything in the way of supplements.  I was taking large doses of folic acid when I found out, since I'm on a drug known to deplete those stores.  I sometimes take b12 and vit. d.  I also chew a kids gummy each day.  I can't tolerate iron.

I'm taking the New Chapter "perfect prenatal", my midwife recommended. They aren't too big and don't taste bad at all, so I don't have a problem taking them. Remembering 3x a day is tough though but I like them.

I take them all in one go. :)

I take a Super Nutrition one daily prenatal, 5000 iud of D, a b-complex, and DHA.

I take the Rainbow Light 1/day Prenatal, Carlson's Very Finest Fish Oil & EPA Gems, Natural Calm + Calcium, Vit D, and herbal tea w/various ratios of any or all of the following: RRL, nettle, alfalfa, oat straw, rose hips, lemon balm, & spearmint.  I'm thinking about adding apple cider vinegar.

Fabulous!  Thanks for all these ideas!  I just picked up more protein powder and am looking forward to more shakes over the next few weeks.  I need all the help I can get, lol.

Now that my stomach has finally settled enough to do anything other than the gummy vitamins, I'm back into my preggo vitamin routine: prenatal, cal/mag, C, D3, fish oil, probiotic, floradix, milk thistle and dandelion tinctures (I had some liver issues last pregnancy) and a daily dose of Berry Green!  I'm also doing raw cider vinegar each evening, and on the days when I have a protein shake I skip the prenatal (basically the same dosage of everything).

This is almost identical to what I have. I take Green Pasture fermented cod liver oil and Garden of Life probiotics, plus a (homemade) tea mixture with the exact same stuff MovingMomma has,
Rainbow Light one-a-day prenatals, and occasionally I'll take freeze dried organ meats. Apple cider vinegar does sound really good...

What is the ACV for?  I did an intense treatment for a UTI over the summer, a shot glass of ACV twice a day for 5 days.  Cleared it up, but man...I can't stomach the smell of ACV anymore!!

I've heard lots of theories about ACV...  That it's good for clearing toxins out of the liver (and I'm doing my best to care for my liver to avoid a repeat scare like in my last pregnancy), that it helps the body to be more acidic (thus warding off colds and flu), that it can help to prevent UTIs (which I got twice during my first pregnancy, they are teh suck!).  None of it may be true, or all of it may be true.  But if any of the health benefits are actually correct, then I'll take what I can get in pregnancy!  I am not taking a shot glass of it though...  I just take a couple tablespoons sometime in the evening.  I like to mix it with a little apple cider over ice, and then fill the rest of the glass up with soda water.  It makes it very palatable (it's kind of like a sour apple soda)!

I take it in warm water with lots of tasty honey :) I didn't like the taste in the beginning so it would be around 1tbsp ACV to 4 tbsp honey, but now I've begun to crave it and I usually do a 1-1 ratio (only now it's something like 4tbsp ACV, because I can stomach it).

My stomach is better, but not 100% yet, even at 16 weeks :(  So I take my supps a few times/week, but I'm nervous to go back to daily because I really really really don't want to go back to feeling like crud all the time.  That being said, when I can/feel up to it, I take a prenatal, calmag 2x/day, vit c, vit d, extra iron, and a fish oil 2x/day.  I've been meaning to get some RRL tea since, like, November, but still haven't picked any up!  I think last time I started drinking RRL in the second tri, so I'd really like to start soon.  I took EPO last time really late, maybe I'll start that sooner this time to avoid going to 42 weeks.  GFSE is grapefruit seed extract, right?  What do you take that for?

RRL tea I drank in the last tri, and I think around 30 something weeks I started taking the grapefruit seed extract and continued taking probiotics to make sure I was group B strep negative.

Hmm, didn't think about taking the ACV in something.  I might even try it!

Ok, this thread just inspired me!  I took all my vits, and just ordered some RRL tea and nettle tea.  That's good to know about gfse, because I've been beta strep + both times, but this being my first HB, I'd really really like to be - this time.

Thanks for the inspiration!!

I took loads of probiotics and GSE during my entire last pregnancy - I was on abx the entire time, so I did everything I could to avoid yeast!   I didn't think much about the benefit of avoiding Strep B, so that's a good point.  I will probably start adding in some raw garlic as soon as I can tolerate it.  Can you take EPO the whole time?  I took it the last 4 weeks last time - I haven't read much about it lately, so I can't remember.  I also used it on my cervix the last 4 weeks as well.

I wish there were more studies on dandelion root and milk thistle during pregnancy.  I really want to take them.  I took them for years prior to pregnancy.  If anyone has some good info on these herbs, I'd appreciate it!

I take daily: Rainbow Light Prenatal (LOVE it!), probiotics, Cod Liver Oil, Vit D 5000mg, and Calcium/Magniseum. My iron levels were good when I had my bloodwork done at 10 wks but I will probably start with Floradix in the 3rd trimester, or sooner if Im feeling tired (or *more tired than usual* :) I would also like to avoid Group B Strep this time around so maybe I will take Vit C and GSE starting then too. What is the GSE dosage you all take? Also, I remember reading that Vit C strengthens the amniotic sac...... I guess that's a good thing?

When I'm sick, I take 15 drops of GSE twice daily in a capsule.  I've never heard of taking it to avoid GBS+ though.  Gonna have to do some research!
