Need to have one amalgam removed and want to ttc, what woudl you do?

I have one amalgam filled tooth that needs to be removed and refilled.

I also have an amalgam filled tooth right next to it and two above it that do not have any problems.

I know i need one removed because of the cavity in it.

My question is, is it ok to ttc right after having only one removed properly?  I can wait on the other three they are not giving me any problems.

I am going to be 37 soon and want to ttc one more child.  But i also dont want that cavity to turn into a root canal.

What would you do?

1) have the cavity replaced and ttc.

2) have all four removed and ttc after 18 months.

I guess its my age that is the problem here.

Ask for the removal to be done with a dental dam in place. (mine were done this way even without asking.)

I am not a fan of amalgam, but there is little evidence of harm from 1-4 amalgams in the mouth, or from amalgam removal prior to TTC. 18 months is a LONG time to wait... you could have a blood test for mercury done if you are really worried.

Mercury in fish is a huge concern, much more than amalgam - select your fish carefully. http://www.nrdc.org/health/effects/mercury/index.asp
