Diaper rash in cloth, any suggestions?

My son has many food allergies, and has very sensitive skin. We currently have eliminated gluten, casein and soy from his diet and he is doing much better (has been on this for close to a year) and finally having solid stools (he is almost 3). He has autism, so he also has communication issues. He has always been in cloth because sposies bother his sensitive skin. We change him promptly, usually twice an hour or whenever he wets. I'm afraid something in his diet may have caused his stool to really bother his bum. After being changed promptly, he has a bright red rash on his bum. :( It's definitely not yeast (have battled this before). He's had it for two days and it's not clearing. I've been trying to do less diaper time, air dry, frequent changes, but nothing is helping. If I switch to sposies with rash cream, he usually breaks out elsewhere from the diaper.

Any suggestions? I feel bad, he's definitely not comfortable :(

In a post lower down, someone suggested lanolin as a barrier cream. I've been trying this for a couple of days with good success - and washing on hot should get rid of the lanolin (less build-up).

DS has very sensitive skin too and we've been battling rash since he was born. This seems to work as well (if not better) than rash cream and sposies.

Poor wee man. I hope you can figure out a way to solve it soon!

Our dd also has very sensitive skin. We use a shea butter diaper cream with flushable liners if she gets a rash (and now also as a barrier at night since we stopped changing her as much at night). We also try not to use covers at home (we just pin prefolds and change as soon as she wets), which really helps her rash clear. When she does have a rash, we usually clean her with olive oil instead of our soap solution.

I don't know if your son would be open to this, but we started putting her on the toilet for most of her poops since six months. This also seems to cut down on the rashes. Our daughter usually poops after naps, so we just put her on the potty when she wakes.

We use this (expensive, but it lasts us a while) and have had no problems with build-up on our diapers:

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions! Our son typically poos around the same times every day, so I will have to start trying that. He's not a fan of the potty and usually cries when I try to get him to sit on it, but I am growing frustrated with still having him in diapers at almost 3.

Make sure you're not adding too much detergent to your wash. Too much can cause red butts too. Try adding less and see if that helps any.
