Is it just PMS or something better?

All, I'm new to this forum AND new to the idea of becoming pregnant. I came here b/c this forum seemed to have the most thoughtful answers. So here it goes...kind of long so please bear with me.

I've been on hormonal bcp since 1996. I had a horribly irregular and painful cycle from the start. I'm very tiny and active-never weighed more than 98lbs so I thought I just couldn't support a regular period. Loestrin24fe for the past 2+ years-no period after the first 3 months but major PMS.

Now it's January 2011 and we decided to get pregnant. Loe24fe has 4 placebo pills, and somehow I got ahead so the last placebo pill was 1/27. I started taking prenatals 2nd week of January and started a FR ov kit on 2/2.I tested regularly each morning-negativr. On 2/9 I was EXHAUSTED- I literally climbed into bed with all my clothes on.

Woke up on 2/10 and got the smiley face. Since I didn't expect to ovulate so quick, we DTD at 6AM and that day I had some bad cramps on my left side. Woke up on Friday and tried the ov kit again-negative but now cramps on my right side. Ov kit on Saturday was negative-right side cramps and sore nips and asleep by 9PM. Woke up on Sunday (today) and so far a repeat of everything but I didn't do the ov kit.

I know my body and while this is PMS week, it feels different and it's early. My nips never hurt and I can't stop tooting from both ends. I feel queasy and I'm salivating more. I was literally looking at a bowl of chicken soup on Friday, and since the broth made me feel sick, I just ate the noodles.

Can it happen so soon?

You mean can symptoms come so early? Yes. I mean those pains you had were just ovulation pains I'm sure. But the fatigue and all that could be symptoms. Google early pregnnacy factor. Its  a substance the body creates when an egg is fertilized. It helps the body recognise it and not attack it as an invador. I believe it's responsible for early symptoms.

But if I ovulated on Thursday (Positive First Response ov kit) before this started happening and I tested negative on Friday and Saturday, is it still ovulation?

I believe that what bcblondie is saying is that your symptoms could be pregnancy symptoms. I'm not exactly sure I agree, but it could be.

Fatigue at O time isn't a typical symptom, but the cramps definitely are. Cramping for a few days around the time of O is definitely not abnormal, so I wouldn't worry about that. As for the fatigue, I would be a bit concerned that you might be getting sick, so just take extra good care of yourself, just in case.

While certainly there are people who report pregnancy symptoms starting right after O, it is rare and there is no real reason for these to happen. From what I've read (and I'm not a doctor!) there are no special hormones secreted until after the egg successfully implants - so usually 5-10 days after it is actually fertilized.

Don't be surprised if you start having tons of pregnancy symptoms during your 2ww, each month you are trying to conceive. It seems to happen to almost all of us! I think we just become MUCH more aware of our body once we actively start trying t coceive, and you will notice things that you've never noticed before. Try to stay mellow and don't over analyze everythng - I know, WAY easier said than done! It often takes a few months for birth control to really leave your system, so your body might seem a bit wierder than normal for the first little while.

Good luck and I hope you conceive quickly!

Ok you're confusing me now. Were you trying to say that ALL the symptoms including the fatigue and stuff were from ovulation? Becuase I disagree with that. The abdominal pains you had were from ovulation. Any symptoms you had after that were either PMS or pregnancy. I was just trying to say that it could be pregnancy. I wouldn't rule it out.

If you're asking whether you're still ovulating if OPKs go back to neg. Yes. You surge for one day. Some people for 2. And usually O the next day.

No, everything started after the 10th which according to the ovulation kit was when I was ovulating. The last day of my period was on 1/27, ov kit gave me the smiley face on 2/10 and now I'm just waiting.

yeah but you only ovulate for one day... you don't still have ovulation symptoms 3 days later... you're done ovulating...

So it's either PMS or pregnant?

If you ovulated on the 10th, you're 4 days post ovulation, and so, it's neither. You shouldn't be close enough to AF starting for it to be PMS, and it's too early for pregnancy symptoms. So while yes, either you're pregnant, or you're not - your symptoms are unlikely to be related to either.

Yes! And I disagree that it's too early for symptoms. All 3 times I was pg I had insane amounts of CM at 4dpo. Google something called early pregnancy factor. Our bodies DO know we're pregnant the moment the egg is fertilized.

9dpo - I couldn't help myself I did take a hpt and it was negative. But if the 4th week of my cycle NOT on bcp starts today but my "period" on bcp started on Tuesday, then it's probably too soon, right?
