Mothering to Go Web-Only - Page 10

The email posted above for people to request a link to the Jan/Feb digital issue is now replying with an automatic message saying it is not going to be read and re-directing people to the new magazine.

Is there a new contact person that can help with people that need a link to the digital copy??

According to the pics and captions posted on FB, Friday was Sarah's last day. So from doing a little more investigative work, the FAQ's page regarding the Web Only transition says:

Q: I deleted my link to the Jan/Feb digital. Can I still read it online?

A: We can email you another link. Please send this request to simones@mothering.com

Pity we have to practically be private investigators in order to figure out how to access what little consolation prizes we have left.

I appreciate what the mods are attempting to do in order to keep us informed, but I'm really disappointed in how Peggy is handling this. It is clear that there is a huge lack of communication going on behind the scenes. I'd expect more from what seemed to be a great organization. greensad.gif

I'm not a magazine subscriber but I agree that in following this thread, I'm pretty surprised by the lack of accountability given by Mothering.  I know they're a business, I guess I just saw Mothering as more compassionate and real than most of capitalist USA.  Weird, altogether.  I'm sorry to the subscribers who've been betrayed in contract and in trust.

There is also the issue of delivery problems that arise from time to time when we send out an email to a large list. Some emails do get returned as undeliverable for a multitude of reasons. So really all we can say is that an email was sent out to subscribers. We cannot explain why some did not receive it.

This FAQ page should answer any questions you have regarding the closure of the magazine or your subscription.

You know, I have to say that I'm disappointed by this response. For one, it doesn't make sense - how would so many subscribers (who were emailed digital editions) not included?!

Second, I find there to be an overall lack of accountability and sensivity to all of the faithful customers who are so strongly impacted by this change and being given so little information. What is beig given has a tone of "tuff stuff, it is what it is." I have no doubt that this is a difficult time for mothering staff but am surprised by the lack of care that has been taken for our feelings. Ironic, given the tie of peaceful, respectful, compassionate parenting that bonds us all. Just saying...

I'm not sure how/if this comment will be moderated but am running out of patience as I still await response from customer service...

Count me as another who didn't get the email about the magazine being canceled...and it's obvious from people on the fb page that many other subscribers didn't receive an email either. I was a new subscriber who didn't have the long term relationship with the magazine that many have but I can say I'm not impressed with how it's being handled.

I also did not get an email about it being cancelled.  I went to buy more as gifts a few weeks ago and was not told then.

I am very upset at the loss of such a great resource for all mothers and also fathers out there.  Mothering Magazine you will be missed.

I am thankful the forum is still available.

I didn't receive an email either. My email hasn't changed and i have gotten the "thread" updates, so my emails must be on file.

I didn't get an email of any type either, although I frequently receive emails from Peggy (recipes, etc) and others from Mothering.  I'm very sad about how it overall, and surprised & disappointed in how it was handled.  Mid-January I was still receiving renewal notices and offers for discounts for multi-year subscriptions-I had it filed to renew, and I'm so glad that I was dragging my feet until payday instead of renewing months early.

No email notice here either.  I certainly received all the paperless renewal notices in my email, so it is actually unbelievable, in the truest sense of the word, that this email notice didn't come through.

1-No email here either

2-What is being done for people who only had a digital sub?

3-I ordered over a dozen back issues and today I got a big EMPTY envelope and my emails to anyone at Mothering seem to be bouncing

Per Lally McMahon, Mothering's associate publisher, those who have paid for a digital subscription will be offered a digital version of the Natural Life magazine.

If you have subscription questions that are not answered by the FAQ page that Mothering has set up, please email simones@mothering.com so she can assist you.

Nettle Tea, I totally agree. I am also not into facebook, twitter etc. Being online can be such a time waster! Also, as I mentioned earlier, the electro magnetic radiation emited by computers , especially when wireless, is something I definitely try to reduce in my home!

Did anyone receive the email?

I have received digital issues, and thread updates but not the email they are purported to have sent out.  I also got no response to my email to Sarah.  I'm going to flip back through CC statements and find if I paid via CC (which I am 99% sure I did) and file a complaint.

I've been trying for over 2 weeks to get in touch with someone about fulfilling the rest of my subscription with back issues.  After emailing a third time yesterday, I FINALLY received a reply asking for more information.  I provided that information immediately and today...nothing.  I have sent the information again and hope for a response.  I tried to call but I can't get through to anyone.  This is extremely frustrating, especially when all of my emails have been polite.  I wasn't screaming for a refund or using four-letter words.  I just want back issues instead of Natural Life; that's it!  Of course, by this point, I am not sure there will be any more back issues by the time this issue is finally resolved.

I also did not get an email. I happened to read about it on Facebook first. :( I did get the Jan/Feb digital issue, so I know they have my email- the only one I've ever had.

I also renewed my subscription in January and would have appreciated being told not to waste my money!

No email here either.  I just found out about all of this a few minutes ago.  No idea how I missed it for the past couple of weeks but I am so sad.  A friend slipped me a copy of Mothering when I was in the hospital nursing my newborn son through a week of IV antibiotics.  No online access, just me and my baby and a stack of parenting magazines, one of which was Mothering.  I latched onto Mothering like someone who was gasping for air and had finally found my lifeline.  I am saddened that this is happening and that the whole process of the changeover is so convoluted at this point.  I never received my Jan/Feb issue, and now to see that it will not be offered in print is just so, so sad.  I have no interest in a digital copy, but it looks like that is my only choice.  I just want to cry at this loss.  :(

In Peggy's blog post, she states:

Quote:
In 2009, magazine subscriptions saw their steepest decline in 40 years. The venerable magazines Gourmet and Reader’s Digest ceased publication.

Reader's Digest's parent company went bankrupt in 2009, but the magazine is still being published (though only 10 times a year now).

I am so sad to hear that Mothering will no longer publish their wonderful magazine!  I found your magazine when I was pregnant with my first child.  He is now almost 6 and I nursed him until he was 3 and used cloth diapers -  thanks to the support from Mothering.  Your magazine opened my eyes and educated me about many issues that I had not been aware of before - so I thank you for that.  I'm feeling a little teary-eyed so I'll stop here.  Thank you.

So sad...

I did purchase a digital subscription a few weeks ago. Also, just last week I received a reminder to renew my print subscription. What were you thinking MM? You must have know you wouldn't be printing any more at this point. Why not inform your faithful subscribers of it on time? You've allowed many of us to unknowingly subscribe again. Unfair...

This is shocking news I'm reading after a long hiatus! In fact the whole forum is different now, wow.

I'm sad to lose the magazine. My kids are getting older and it seemed a bit less relevant to me as it did when they were babies but, I still loved the mag for its ability to reach out to people who may not have otherwise heard of such ideas. I loved leaving a copy at the doctor's office or places like that for example.

That being said, you all have my full support. I know it wasn't an easy decision. grouphug.gif
