Hello, I'm 34 weeks pregnant and for a couple of weeks now I've had a dull and uncomfortable burning, achy feeling under my left ribs. I think it's my uterus but I'm not sure. It seems to be more frequent now than before. At first I thought it was the baby pushing on that spot all of the time, but I don't really feel baby right there all of the time. It seems to hurt more when I'm sitting or laying down, and it hurts when the baby kicks there more than if it were to kick elsewhere. Any ideas? I have my next prenatal on wednesday, but I may go sooner just in case. Baby is still moving lots which is why I didn't get it checked out sooner. I didn't have this with dd1.

I had this with my last two pregnancies and 'so' look forward to it again......NOT! First time I complained of it, I had a thorough work-up for gall-bladder and mine was totally fine. In the end, we pretty much decided it was stretching of the fascia between/around the ribs. And yes, when kicked....ouch!! Sort of like getting whacked on a bruised spot again and again.
Â
I found relief by pushing down with the heel of my hand on that side just below my ribs and stretching that arm up over my head. I was going to the chiro 2-3x a week for both those pregnancies and it didn't make any difference, but YMMV there. (I did like chiro for other things...but didn't help the rib burn!)
Â
Went away as soon as I delivered, and I've only had it while pregnant. Started sometime around 30ish weeks if I remember and continued until delivery.

I just asked my midwife about it, and she said it is totally normal, and that it is probably just the baby snuggled up under the ribs. She said it's pretty common for the baby to hang out on one side, and then that side gets sore, especially if the baby presses its butt up against the ribs. That totally makes sense to me, since I can sometimes see that the baby is all lumped up on the one side (my tummy bulges out to one side). She recommended gently pressing on it to try to get the baby to move somewhere else.Â

My vote is stretching of the ribs. I've had it with all three pg's. My DD stretched them out pretty good, but my DS is the one that STRETCHED them out the worst(he was a BIG baby), with this one it hurts/burns but not NEAR as bad bc they are already stretched out...he's just adding to the fun! LOL I have stretched out ribs for good now woo hooooh!  I hope that yours dont go too far out...eeesh it hurts!
