Phonics for the reader?

Thread Starter

My 7 year old is reading and has been for almost a year.  Mostly she learned from being read to and playing a DS game called "Scribblenauts".  But, after a year of reading she seems somewhat stuck at the same level.

I am wondering if I should be doing phonics with her, how many of you do phonics lessons, and what would be a good program for a reader that doesn't need "B is for Boy"?  I get frustrated with the phonics workbooks I find, they seem too easy..  are there any good programs out there that are slightly more advanced than pre-reader phonics?

Thanks!

I do spelling workout. I know it is spelling, but it is phonics based, and in later years, vocab based, so it really helped the reading skills of my older child.

Have you looked at Explode the Code?  You don't have to start at book 1...take a look through the sample pages you can find online and see where you think she should start.  You might even start where she can do the stuff, but it's not way too easy.
