From two naps to one: does the one nap get longer?

That's pretty much my question. DS (15 mo) is obviously dropping his AM nap, but his PM nap isn't getting any longer. So, he's napping around an hour total, and he's pretty grumpy and tired by the end of the day. How does this work?

When DS dropped his 2nd nap he started sleeping 13+ hours at night, so his morning nap which he usually had about 6 hours after waking up lasted the same time as before, about an hour and a half sometimes two...but man did he sleep at night!  He gave his second nap up around 15 months.

God, I miss that.

Interesting... He did start sleeping later a few weeks ago, so maybe that'll be his trade-off.

THat's what my DD did.  She's now sleeping 13 hours at night and about 1-2 hours nap.

nope, didn't get a longer afternoon nap, but ours was already 2ish hours so i'm not expecting more than that. i've found that in our case trying to get her down as late as possible means longer nap though (say...1:00 vs. 12:00) maybe because she's more tired by that point...and it makes for a better evening.

working on the sleeping later as our schedule has changed and don't have to get her up at 7 anymore.

Once DS got settled in, it was longer.  He slept from 7pm-7/8am and then would nap for about 2 hours in the afternoon.  He's recently started waking up when his sister does, around 6am, and I'm trying to reintroduce naps because he can't make it to 7pm anymore.

If he's grumpy in the evenings, try putting him to bed 30-45 minutes earlier.  He may well still wake up at his normal time.
