Four days past due and 5 hours before my midwife had to be at the airport to leave for her vacation Orlando Pierce a.k.a. "Orly" made his way into the world - 12:55AM Sat Feb 12th. Weighing in at 8lbs 8oz and 20.5 in. Yay!! We are so happy.
It was a homebirth in the water and it was everything we could have ever hoped from birth. Because my last birth was so long the midwives had to convince me over the course of a couple hours that I could, in fact, push. I kept telling them I wasn't dilated enough and they kept saying "uh honey - the baby is right there" and they were right because I basically pushed for about 5 minutes and he slipped (shot) into the water. It was beautiful though of course also totally HARD WORK! I'm hoping to write up the full story shortly but things are totally crazy around here. My parents arrived to help but my mom has a broken wrist and sprained ankle and my dad is getting over bronchitis so we're all a bit pathetic... but totally in love with our new boy - hurrah!
