i had some frozen and i thawed it out to give to my daughter. it tasted nasty. she wouldnt even drink it. is that high lipase?

i was just reading about fructose intolerance. apparently it can cause high levels of lipase in your body? wouldnt that effect the milk?

Could be.  What is recommended for high lipase milk is to scald, then cool, before freezing.  By the way, while some babies won't touch it, others don't seem to mind and it is not really harmful.

I really only noticed the bad taste/smell from milk I had frozen. The stuff that was relatively fresh and had just been kept in the fridge wasn't bad.

It sounds just like me and I am pretty sure it's a lipase issue. Frozen milk tastes like barf if I don't scald it, and fresh goes bad within 3-4 days in the fridge instead of the recommended 8 days.  The scalding seems to help although it does tend to separate once it's thawed. Not harmful. If it's already frozen and not scalded though it's too late, unfortunately- but in the future you can scald!  Use a pan with a lid so you catch any water that evaporates.  And cool it before you put it in your freezer bags- I've melted them by  being too quick.

i am going to do an experiment. after 6 weeks of a fructose free diet, i will see if my milk still has high lipase in it. and i am going to keep on the diet and if it doesnt change it in 6 weeks i will cut it down more to see. maybe if my gut heals and my body re balances itself, the high lipse will be gone out of my milk.

Please let me know how it goes.  I have high lipase and my daughter won't drink scalded milk.  She will only drink milk that is fresh.  I'm running back and forth to daycare to keep her supplied with fresh milk and it would be so nice to be able to not have to worry about it.

It does sound like high lipase .. i had that with my first daughter and have not had it with either of my other children.. i didn't knowingly change anything about my diet .. so i'm not really sure why its not an issue anymore?
