I'm interested in hearing about what your little person is up to! Mainly I just want to feel like we're all sort of in the same boat here. My DS is 14 months old, and he is into EVERYTHING. Toys are of no interest, but man, if it can cut/crush/fall on/choke him, he is all about it! He knows the word no, but he has no desire to listen to it. When I tell him no, it's met with a smile, giggle, and continuation of the behavior. I have friends with children younger than he and older than he, but I don't know any children around the same age. I don't want to compare per se, as I know that leads to trouble, but can you comiserate with me?!
I love the little guy absolutely to bits. He has been such a happy guy from the day he was born, but now he's into this thing where if you tell him no, then make him stop a negative/dangerous behavior, he'll scream at the top of his lungs and often try to bite. This is, of course, much worse when he's sleepy.
A little back story. Hubby and I recently (Sept 2010) moved back to CO from NM. We had a house in NM that we'd just had built and it was a victim of the economy. We stayed with my parents in CO 'til our house got mostly sold, then we moved into an apartment last week. My parent's house is not babyproof in the slightest, and when Gage got on his feet around November, playing with him pretty much entailed chasing him around the house telling him what not to play with, what not to touch, where not to go. It was awful, to be honest. I'm worried that the amount of negativity has done real damage. Now that we're getting moved in at our apartment, things are better-we plan to just childproof from the get-go, allowing him to free play everywhere but the kitchen, bathrooms, and master bedroom. Is it too late, y'all? Have I warped my son by making him live in the weird mix of grandparents leaniency and parental rulemaking? Or will he adjust to having his own space again?!
He's also a cosleeper, and we're looking to end that relationship. That's the next difficult hurdle so I'd love it if you have insight as to how to get him to sleep happily in his own bed without CIO. He is a crib jumper and by that I mean as soon as I lay that tiny body in the crib he is on those feet and demanding satisfaction via cuddles.
Anyways! That's my situation and for now, I'm sticking to it! Care to share your situation/insights with me?!
