When my girls were 19 months old, I started them on a routine of we nurse before bedtime but then we unlatch and fall asleep without being on the breast.  Then about a week ago (they are now 22 months), we started nightweaning - we said we don't nurse again until it's morning.  They wake up still a few times at night and cry a bit but go back to sleep with patting, etc.

That said, I haven't done anything for their naps at all - they still nurse to sleep for the nap (one nap a day), and they actually wake up midway to nurse back to sleep - in fact, they usu stay latched on to me for the remainder of the nap b/c they won't let me go.  The few times I've tried to say we're done nursing, now let's sing or pat to sleep, they get up and start jumping around the bed or just freak out and cry.

My back is killing me, my scoliosis has actually worsened, and I need intensive therapy to reduce the pain - ie, I simply can't have two toddlers hanging off my breasts for an hour or more at a time anymore.

I really want them to continue napping if possible...any thoughts on how to get them to sleep without nursing and stay asleep during the day?  It seems like they realize they can just get up and play if they want to since the house isn't dark.
