Surreal bedtime experience with my 13 month old.

So the last 6 weeks we have been putting DD (now 13 months) down in her own room as we all seem to sleep better that way and it has been an interesting transition for the bedtime routine which used to just be her hanging out with us until we were ready for bed and me nursing her to sleep.

I started by nursing her to sleep in the living room and putting her down in her room, but she soon cottoned on that she was being bamboozled I think because recently, the last few weeks, she stopped nursing into oblivion in favor of some more play despite being punch-drunk tired, like unable to stand or see straight tired.

So I started taking her in and singing her a song and then laying her down and every single night so far she has wailed bloody murder the minute I put her down which leads to lots of settling, rocking, hand holding, tummy patting, singing, hugging...etc etc.

Tonight I sang her a song and laid her down and she gave me a smile and rolled over pulling the blanket up to her chin.  I cautiously backed out of the room...nothing.  About five minute later I heard her speak "Daddy?  Daddy?"  and I said back, "Goodnight Emily, we love you!" and that was it...she went to sleep...like she's a five year old and it's that easy.

What the?!  Dare I dream this is the start of a new trend?!  Holy MOLY!

Fuh-REAK-y.

You've jinxed yourself with this post.  Now she'll never go to sleep that easy again.  :D

lol.gif Probably true.  In the meantime I am thinking of treating myself to a cupcake and a mug of milky tea while I watch a full entire episode of House without interruption.  HA!  I might as well make the most of it while I can.

That makes 4 nights in  row.

OMG

DH and I are actually having real adult conversations, and snuggling again.  And she's sleeping until 5am...solid.

This is amazing.  You can actually see our white eyeballs in normal flesh colored eye sockets instead of bloodshot spheres sunken in deep dark circles...We made it through infancy without divorcing, topping ourselves or killing the girl-child!!!

OH MY GOD!

Let me just enjoy this until the next set of molars comes in. orngtongue.gif

Yay!  That is so exciting.  We switched DD at 10 months and had a pretty similar situation.  First few nights she wasn't too happy.  Now I just rock her a little bit and put her in her crib and she sleeps.  Every night I am absolutely amazed and I think she is the most perfect sleeper ever.  She's so different than DS was.  She does wake up once to nurse every now and then, but goes right back into her crib no problem.
