Looking into HBAC in Washington State (Seattle)

Thread Starter

Good Evening,

I am in the process of looking for a Midwife, however I will be attempting a VBAC and I would really prefer to birth in the comfort of my own home. I have a vision of a waterbirth in my living room allowing my body to do what it was made to do with no pressure for meds, no bright lights, no hourly checks, and no "meat market" mentality Doctors hovering just waiting to fillet me open! If anyone knows of any Midwives in the Seattle area that will do At-Home VBAC can you please let me know!

Thanks so much!

I feel the same way and have been looking into MWs who VBAC at home in Seattle. The following have said that they do attend vbacs but they all want to meet and talk before agreeing to take you on as a client.

Midwife Seattle - www.midwifeseattle.com

Erin Curtiss - www.homebirthinseattle.com

Rainy City Midwifery - www.rainycitymidwiferyandacupuncture.com

Birth Joy - birthjoyeducation.com

Moonrise Health and Birth - www.moonrisehealth.com

Fremont Midwifery - www.fremontmidwifery.com

Also, there is a doula who offers a vbac course and is recommended by all the midwives I talked to. Her info is:

Sharon Muza at New Moon Birth - www.newmoonbirth.com

Moving to Finding Your Tribe so some "local" moms can point you in the right direction!  Good luck in your search and congrats on your pregnancy!  :)

Just a correction or clarification, Midwife Seattle does not do HBACs. Cindie Brown, who started the practice, does many, many VBACs at Group Health (great option for hospital) but not at home.

Most MWs who will do hbacs do not advertise it because of issues with their insurance.  I would recommend contacting ICAN.

I don't know for sure if she does HBACs, but it seems to be in line with her philosophy and I think it's definitely worth giving her a call and asking- check with Suzanne Thompson.  I just had a homebirth with her, and she is amazing and definitely a believer in the natural birth process.  Very experienced, knowledgable, and outside the mainstream medical model (she has done breech homebirths, so I can imagine that she probably would do HBAC too).  I had a great experience with her- this was my second homebirth and I feel that she was much less into interventions than my last midwife.  I don't think she has a website, but if you google her you should come up with her contact info.  I'd chase it down for you but I'm sitting here nursing at the keyboard so I'm kinda stuck :).

And let me know if you have any questions about her, and I will rave about her some more ;).
