Dr. Bronners baby mild vs. peppermint

I'd like to use something gentle and natural to clean my baby's skin. I know Dr. Bronners has a baby mild soap, but I already have a big bottle of the peppermint soap. Is there a difference other than the fragrance?

I'm not sure what differences there might be in formulation, but I have used the peppermint kind on my baby. Not when he was tiny, because the peppermint is very strong, but it didn't bother him when I did use it. You could dilute it a lot for a smaller baby, it would probably be fine.

Peppermint does not belong on private parts :) Ask me how I know :)

Other than private parts, mouth and eyes, I don't think it's a problem at all. I love that stuff.

The peppermint will definitely sting her eyes if you aren't careful... I have to rinse my eyes out for a couple minutes before I can open them.  I also can't use the peppermint as a full body wash because its too strong on my genitals (much like a certain lubricant you might know of only uncomfortable.. not fun... )

However, I HAVE used it on my kiddo before, just not anywhere near her face and only a tiny amount (which is usually all she needs unless she has been getting for real dirty) to be sure there are no issues.  she was sitting in a bathtub of water anyway so that helps dilute it for the more sensitive bits.

It looks like your kiddo is pretty young anyway so you really don't need to use much body wash.. you might not even need any at all depending on what you've been doing between bath times.  I'd use the peppermint, just not too much and being mindful of the fact that it does in fact have peppermint oil in it.

I don't know, mama. It might be too strong for her. I'm a firm believer in no soap or shampoo for babies, anyway! I don't think they really need it!

i wouldn't use the peppermint....i have a bottle right now, and i've thought about it cause it smells so nice, plus, my kid is 16 months. buuuuut, i know how it feels when i use it on myself, sometimes good in small amounts but as pp's have suggested...you gotta be really careful to avoid certain part. yikes! even with the rest of the body, there are times when you like feeling all chilly when you get out of the shower (like in the middle of the summer) and there are times when it's just plain irritating to feel like you're freezing and there's nothing you can do about it but wait for the peppermint to wear off. brrrrrrrr!!!!!!

Dr bronners peppermint on private parts is not a lovely feeling lol. Same goes for the eyes. Plus it stings any skin irritation or scrape etc....I would go for the baby mild

I have an adult woman friend who said Dr. B's peppermint reliably causes yeast infections.  Just a thought.  I don't use it for myself on my privates, either--it stings.

Wow! Thanks for all of the quick responses! I will continue to reserve the peppermint soap for cleaning the house smile.gif

Just to go off of this, what about some of the less invasive fragrances like almond of lavendar? Peppermint IS quite strong on private parts but the almond fragrance isn't. What's the deal there? I love the smell of a nice clean baby!

Also, in case you ever use homeopathic remedies like teething gel or tabs, peppermint has a negating effect on all homeopathics and should be avoided if you want the remedy to work.

We use the Dr Bronner baby mild and like it. I think all of Dr Bronners can be a little drying, at least where we are especially in the winter. I usually end up bathing ds twice a week, once with soap and once without.

I agree with the suggestions about the peppermint. I bought it once for myself and not so comfortable as a whole body soap. I ended up saving it just as a hand soap.

another vote for the baby mild...I actually stopped using the peppermint for our bodies at all. Party because we use homeopathics and it didn't make sense to just not use it when we needed a remedy, and party because one of us would always forget and wash our genitals or face with it and yeeeow!  It's a great cleaner but a not so great body soap IMO.

I use the baby mild and put one drop of lavender EO in the small bottle...for two reasons, because I love it and because I know it relaxes my little guy who hates water. One drop goes a long way too.
