I spend around 3-31/2 hours every day trying to get my DD to fall asleep for naps and bedtime. I am losing my mind.
She has never been a good napper, and usually napped in the carrier until about 6 months when she would not fall asleep in the carrier because of excitment from noise and motion. Then she napped in the bed (for only 30 minutes), then when that didn't work, back to the carrier (but in a quiet, dark room and I walk and rock her). If I put her down after she falls asleep, she is awake within 20 minutes. She is almost 12 months now. I have to work, I'm a single mom and this can not go on any longer!!!
I've read NCSS, Sleep Lady book, Dr. Sears. None of them had anything useful. Today I was so exasperated I decided she could just cry it out. So I put her in her crib and left her there. But she didn't cry. And she didn't fall asleep. An hour later, and she still wasn't asleep.
My mom has suggested she just doesn't need to nap, which is not true. She gets tired, cranky, and clingy.
I feel like I've searched every book and website but to no avail. I'm not sure anyone here will have the miracle trick that will help, but I feel like there are a lot of wise people who have helped their children gently fall asleep. Any advice is appreciated!
