12 month old and nipples are killing me?! what??

My nipples are killing me all of a sudden!!  What is up?!  This is reminding me of newborn nursing, but my babe is 12 months!!  Nursing shouldn't hurt at this point, right?  This is my second nursling--I nursed my first until 18 months.. and I want to quit!  :(

I see you're TTC... Any chance you're pregnant?  If it is a general, aching pain that would be my first guess!

Have you experienced mastitis or thrush ever?  The symptoms for those are more specific: hot breasts, red marks, rash...

Is your babe teething?  I've found that sometimes new teeth change their latch a little. Just enough to cause some pain until you figure it out.

When my babe is teething forget it! OMG my nipples are killing me right now and she even drew blood yesterday!

OUCH!  I just take some pain reliever and keep some real lanolin around and power through it lol It can be trying times though.

Hmmm... that'd be great if I was pregnant!  I haven't had my first AF yet, but that doesn't mean it's impossible!  I will have to check that! :P

I have never had thrush or anything like that.. but maybe he's teething.  There are no teeth coming through at the moment...

I don't know.  My intention was to nurse through pregnancy, but this is so uncomfortable, it's like I can't even have him nurse--not for long anyway..

yeah I get like that when DD is teething and before AF. It is painful so it's like here ya go 5mins and 5 mins see ya!

Get thee to a pregnancy test, my dear.  I'd say that kind of powerful reaction to nursing points directly to pregnancy. Or at least it did for me!

Not to get your hopes up or anything...

Exactly!  I can't stand it!  It's really like a few minutes before I can't tolerate it anymore!

Didn't even think about AF returning.  That could totally be it as well!

It could totally be AF returning!  (although I'd prefer the pregnancy option!)  My nursling has been night weaned for about 2 weeks now.. hmmm :)  And hey!  I live "north of boston" as well--in Maine!  I'm originally from Exeter, NH though which is under an hour from Boston!  A very nice area!  How are you and your babes doing with all of this snow!?

Usually from ovulation to the onset of my period (which I just got back when ds turned 2) nursing hurts! It's totally annoying and I don't let him nurse for long.

I had nipple soreness late too.  I think it was from nursing too long on a side since my daughter had become a more efficient sucker.  Since keeping to no more than 20 minutes or so on a side, I have been able to keep all soreness at bay... also, it usually would take about a week to go away and I would just bite my lip through it.  painful, but knowing it would go away was helpful!
