Prenatal vitamins that don't taste like poop?

Okay, don’t laugh, but I have a really, really sensitive gag reflex when it comes to eating or drinking anything that tastes bad or has a funny texture.  (Just ask my partner and my friends how many times they’ve laughed at me trying to drink Airborne or eat taffy or chew antacids.  It never ends well.)

So far, I’ve tried two brands of prenatal vitamins, and they both taste pretty bad.  I can choke them down now by drinking them with juice and making a bad face, but I’m worried that if I actually have any morning sickness when I get pregnant, I won’t be able to muddle through.  Has any one found any prenatal vitamins that taste okay or even neutral?  They need to be vegetarian, but I’ll pay whatever at this point.

Thanks!

I think that some people end up taking a children's vitamin and folic acid instead. If you already eat healthy, chances are you're getting most of what you need from food... the vitamin just makes sure all your bases are covered.

I had the same issue.  I use the prenatal vitamins from TwinLab but I'm not sure if they're vegetarian.  They're the only vitamins that didn't make me want to vomit.  The worst for me was Rainbow Light.  Blech.

Nature's Way brand Completia are pretty good!  The filler is mostly peppermint leaf, so they taste OK.  But you have to take 4 a day!

I take rainbow light and they don't taste bad to me.  I have somewhat of a gag reflex and a lot of times can't take regular asprin or ibprofin without gagging.  rainbow light are also vegetarian

Huh.  I like Rainbow Light Once a Day.  They have a nice slippery coating on them.  And no weed-y smell.

Target has gummy prenates, or is that a forbidden texture?

There are some liquid ones.

I'd suggest just finding the best you can, and laying in some plain folate.  Take the folate only on the days you can't stomach the other.

I take the Target up&up prenatals with the DHA supplement I can't really taste them and the prenatals (not the DHA) are pretty small, so they're easy to swallow. Just once a day.

I compared them to the Centrum I usually take and the up&up were almost exactly the same. The big difference is the prenatals have 800mcg of folic acid and the Centrums have 400mcg.

Does anyone else have problems with heartburn caused by prenatals?  Because I do, boy do I!  I'd be interested to hear what everyone's experiences were with this - I'm tacking it on here because it's a common related complaint to taste.

(I take prenatals daily, TTC or no - I have vitamin deficiencies that can't be corrected by diet that are easily corrected with prenatals.)

Just reading this thread is making me gag.  I've found that taking my vitamins with V8 works very well.  It masks the taste better than any other juice I've tried.

I tried to take some the other day without V8 and almost puked.  DD thought it was hilarious and couldn't wait to tell SO about it.  lol

ETA: The vitamins I take are Nutralite.  I don't know how the taste compares to other brands.

prenexa taste good.  they are big but they go down real easy, and have a slight vanilla flavor to them.  they also have plant based dha, but im not sure the capsule doesnt have gelatin.

There are gummy prenatal vitamins that they sell at Target and Kroger (probably other places too). The only problem I've found with them is that they don't have iron. If you need iron (I do as I've been anemic for awhile) then you'll have to supplement. What I do is take the gummy prenatals every other day. On the other days I take Flintstone Completes.

I take pregnitude. Its a powder you blend with 8 ounces of water. I don't really care for just water so my doctor said squirt some mio into it and it'll taste fine. So far, it's amazing.

This is the first pregnancy that I've actually been able to tolerate prenatals in the first trimester.  I'm taking NOW brand Prenatal Gels + DHA.  They are not vegetarian, but maybe you can find another brand of Gels.  The thick, smooth gel coating makes it so I can't taste anything going down, and the smell is very minimal compared to others.  I normally can't even take multi vitamins on a normal non-pregnant day, so this has been pretty amazing.
