looking for advice - stop altogether or continue?

Hi ladies,

I am at the end of my rope with my 19 month old. 2 months ago I decided that we needed to day wean. We managed it rather successfully with distraction techniques and discussion. But in the last week, she has started to "ask" (read: demand) milk inconsolably for 30 minutes to an hour at a time.

I thought we were through this... Now I am pregnant (10 weeks), sore nipples, exhausted... and I'm considering weaning altogether just to make the drama go away. I keep hoping that my milk will change due to the pregnancy, but it just seems to be increasing :/

I dunno ladies, I really was into child-lead weaning in theory, or at the very least nursing until 2 - 3 years. I feel awful, and sick at the thought of weaning her at 19 months, but I don't feel any different at the thought of continuing.

I need opinions! Please throw them at me! Any advice is welcome!

HUGS!!!!

One thing that helped us, when I didn't want to wean, but was losing it with the constant nursing, was to say, "Ok, we will nurse for ONE minute, but then we will just snuggle"  Then give a few warnings about "just a few more seconds to nurse" and then unlatch and put the boob away.  My ds really understood everything I said at that age, so that helped TONS.

If you need to wean for your sanity, don't feel guilty.  It's OK to do what you need to do.

I can't know what is going to be right for you, your child, your pregnancy. But nursing as long as you have is really wonderful and I wish you could feel proud, not guilty.

One thing I've noticed is that sometimes toddlers get really whiny and clingy when trying to wean. Also sometimes they seem to act out in other ways, throwing things or climbing on things or saying mean words. Also I've observed sleep disturbances, constipation/diarrhea, and a sudden increase in colds and pink-eye during the weaning time. Of course, many kids have none of these problems, but sometimes weaning is a lot harder than continuing to breastfeed.

yeah, we've been doing that for a while. That too has stopped working. I think I may just have to wean her to avoid this crazy drama.
