Are you going to be giving your baby cow's milk at 12 months or older- or at all? - Page 3

Oh yeah...I forgot...we do a bottle or a sippy, whatever is clean.shy.gif  She'll happily take either.  She is a greedy gannut.

I didn't give any to DS until he was almost 15 months.  And even then just a taste of the skim milk DH and I use (cereal, coffee).  He's not too big into milk and wouldn't come close to drinking a half gallon of organic whole milk, so I just didn't give it to him.  DD is 11 months and she is drinking about 3oz of organic whole cow's milk a day.  And it does gross me out a bit, but I still give it to her.  For some reason my milk supply doesn't seem to be keeping up with her as well as it did with DS.  I think, partly, because she asks for and consumes solid foods 3-4 times a day, whereas DS had no interest in solids.   She still nurses on demand day and night, so hopefully introducing cow's milk now isn't hurting the nursing relationship.  I gave her some after 3 days of very frequent nursing and she still wanted more liquid.  (I did give some water, but she would always grab her brother's milk and juice cups).

She gets her cow's milk in a variety of containers - sippy cups, soft top cups, straw cups, and bottles.  She drinks it out of all of them, but she's never been picky.

Dd only took a bottle for a very brief time when I worked starting at 7 wks old. By 4 months she was on a sippy and wanting solids and would drink coconut milk, water, almond milk or soymilk while I was at work. Neither of my kids has seemed to appreciate breastmilk in a sippy, don't know why, and neither one was very fond of the bottle either. DP doesn't believe in bottles after 6 months :eyeroll and I don't think they should go past a year. So definitely sippy cup for us. Dd dand ds each have a sport bottle-type straw cup that are really intended for use in the car only, and they both drink from regular cups in the house. We aren't germaphobic (thank goodness because my kids are *gross* lol) so a lot of times the two of them will share one cup all day long. Since I give ds whole milk for the fat content and also as an alternative to juice and water, and dd will often go help herself to his cup, she gets cow's milk too. However I can only think of a few occasions where I have actually put cows milk in her cup, intended for her. She has breastmilk....I don't think there is any reason for her to guzzle cow's milk with any regularity. She does however eat cold cereal and about haf the time it is soy or rice milk, the other half it is cow's milk. Most of that eems to get spilled though, lol so idk if that counts!

I'm actually pro-drinking raw cows milk.  I've tried to get my DD to drink it for over a year now and she will hardly drink an ounce of it every now and then.  lol.gif  I do make yogurt from it though and she eats that on almost a daily basis as well as eating a fair amount of cheese.  She also nursed until she was almost 2 when I weaned her because I was 8 months pregnant and didn't want to tandem.

Also, we never did sippys or bottles.  Sure, she had an occasional bottle as a baby, but we never gave either to her regularly.  Her sippy cup is for the car when spills are more of an issue.  At home we just deal with the random spills because I'd rather she just learn how to use a regular cup than drag a sippy around with her everywhere.

No. While I personally believe raw milk is way better for you, I think high quality milk is fine. Local is even better :). Here is a link with some great info about the safety of raw milk.

I don't see a problem with buying local organic milk. I personally do not want to go that route and want raw milk if my daughter is going to drink milk at all, but I don't think that being bought in a store necessarily equals crap. It just depends on what you're buying.

DD is only 5 months old but we'll probably just stick with breastmilk for the first few years of her life... as long as she's nursing I don't really see a reason to give her cow's milk. :)
