Wool Suiting?

Hi there. I'm expecting #1 in May, and am working on building an inexpensive diaper stash.  I've got a fair # of prefolds, flats, and 2nd hand organic cotton 1-size.

I've purchased 8 wool sweaters from local thrift stores that my MIL is going to turn into wool covers & wool longies for me, after I've felted some of the looser ones just a little. And I have a few Bummis SWW on my registry/wish list.

Here's my question: I have free access to *yards upon yards* of high quality wool suit fabric.  It is very lightweight and not at all itchy. Do you think it would work to use that fabric as receiving blankets?  I like to be able to do double duty when possible (a flannel receiving blanket which I could also fold up into a diaper in a pinch) but I don't think the wool suiting would work well for that because of it's natural water repellent qualities... do you think the wool suiting could be turned into receiving blankets though? Or even bedding for the bassinet and later crib?

I also have a yard or two of good sturdy hemp twill - do you think that would make good bibs for later on?

I know that strictly speaking these aren't diaper making questions - but this forum seemed like the best place for me to ask!

TIA!

very thin soft wool would be worth trying as a receiving blankets. It would be great for half a double receiving blanket with cotton flannel on the other side. Just wash it up first to felt it since you do not want to be hand washing something that big regularly.

I really doubt it would work for anything diapering since it is so thin it would have so little absorbency.

Hemp will make good absorbent bibs. Make them with a pocket for the food and possibly sleeves (contrasting print would be really neat).

I can see having lots of fun decorating a nursery with wool suiting, nice contrast with the babyish and not soon outgrown.
