I just found these forums today and I am so glad I found this thread! I don't really have an eating lable, I guess I'm a flexitarian. :-) After my DS was born I had horrible health problems and had gained a ton of weight I just couldn't lose. I had never had major problems with weight so I was at a loss. I ate generally healthy but that still didn't help. Eventually I stumbled onto a raw foods diet book and started implementing a lot of raw foods into my diet. Mostly that meant I had a fruit smoothie for breakfast and a salad, veggie sandwich or lettuce wrap for lunch. As I read more about eating healthy I started to only want to eat "good" meat, i.e., organic or local free-range antibiotic free. Because that wasn't really something we could afford to do very often we started eating less meat and eventually I become a "mostly" vegetarian. The more vegetables I ate, the less I wanted to eat meat. I listen very closely to my body and if I ever wanted meat I would eat it but for the most part I was thriving on the way I was eating and felt better than ever. I also lost about 25 pounds and had a ton of energy.

I still ate eggs (to a point, I hate eggs but like them in omlettes with a ton of veggies, salsa, sour cream and cheese) and cooked soups with organic free-range chicken broth that I bought. Other than that, meat was and is a rarity in our house. My DH is just happy that I cook and will eat just about anything if I make it. My DS (3) had a ton of allergies as a baby -- we had to have him tested at three months old because he was reacting so severely to my breast milk. He's allergic to dairy, eggs and peanuts. He is able to drink milk kefir without a reaction.

I have friends that are very into the Nourishing Traditions/Weston Price Foundation way of eating. Because of their influence I implemented cultured vegetables and more kefir and sourdough into our diet. I think that has helped us be even healthier. However, I'm a little stuck with all the meat on the traditional diet. I tried eating more meat over the holidays (again good quality and organic) and it made me feel sick. I am pregnant with my second and trying to be as healthy as possible for this baby but I'm just a little squeamish with meat and it doesn't sound good to me at all. I did eat meat during the first trimester as it was one of the few foods that didn't make me sick. I hate cooking meat though and when I do I have trouble eating it. It's nice to know there are other people out there like me that I can relate to.

My general philosophy about food is that each person has a particular balance that works well for them. High on veggies and natural fats seems to work well for me. I took a test by Dr. Mercola which tested what kind of eater you should be for optimal health and I tested as a veggie eater. I want to be open to this way of eating though since my son has allergies and I'd like to try and heal his gut as much as possible.

Sorry this was so long, I was just really excited to see other people like me! :-)
