fall at the playground/bumped head

My son fell of the playground equipment today from the height of a big kid slide (6ftish) and landed on the side of his head/face.  He cried immediately and after being consoled for 20 minutes or so he was ready to get up and play.  He does have a bump and some scratches but has been himself all afternoon.  He has not felt nauseous, his pupils aren't different sizes and he's not sleepy.  If he didn't bump his head I'd think it was any other day.

My immediate thought when it happened was that he should get checked out but he's been so normal all day.  I guess my concern is having him go to bed tonight.  Any thoughts?

You could always give your doc a call and see what they think (my guess is that they'll tell you to keep a close eye on him tonight and not bring him in unless there is some change, but that's just a guess).

Based on what you describe I would just watch and see.  My ds once fell down a flight of stairs onto a concrete basement floor.  We brought him straight to the ER.  They asked if he had lost consciousness or vomited and they checked his pupils, and that was about it (besides giving him a memorable yellow popsicle, lol!).  They said that unless there were symptoms of concussion (or worse) they wouldn't put him through a head CT scan (which is what they would need to do to check things out further).

****BUT if at any time your mama instincts tell you to go in then listen to them please.****

Dr. Sears usually has good advice, but of course call your own doctor if you have any doubt:
