can a fence keep away a neighbor's smoke?

We moved into a new house which we love, but unfortunately our neighbor smokes on her patio which is about 10-15 feet away from our bedroom windows and 20 ft from our front door. I have asthma and am very sensitive to the smoke. I don't like my ds or dh breathing it either. She has suggested we put up a tall fence between the houses. Before we spend the money on this I want to make sure it is likely to work. Has anyone done this and if so what kind of success have you had?

No. Smoke will get past, over, and around  a wooden privacy fence.

The only idea I might suggest to you is to run a fan in your windows facing out.. to keep her smoke wafting away from your house. Or keep your windows closed at all times.

I'm sorry, that really sucks.

I'm sorry you're in this situation. My neighbor also used to sit on her porch (which faced my porch) and smoke and pretty much made it so I couldn't have windows or doors open or even use my porch. It's not fair but other than talking to her, there isn't much you can do. A fence will do nothing...air will thru a fence LOL.
