3 month old nap "schedule"?

Is your 3 month old on any sort of a sleep schedule or general routine?  What does it look like?

I'm currently trying to get my 3 month old on a (baby led) sleep schedule so she doesn't get overtired (which seems to be a big problem for her right now).  She wakes up around 7-8am, takes her first nap within an hour of waking, then, depending on how long she naps for her first nap, goes down again between 11-12pm and sleeps for 4 hours straight.  Sometimes if her morning nap is short, she'll take a second morning nap and take her long afternoon nap from 1-5ish.  She'll wake up and then need another nap by 5:30-6pm, and sleep for an hour, then go down for the night around 8pm.  So that's an average of 11.5 hours night time sleep and 6-7 hours of daytime sleep.  Doesn't that seem like a lot?  I know newborns sleep a ton, but she's only ever awake for about 6 hours during any 24!  Is that normal?  And if she is awake for longer than 1.5-2 hours she goes crazy crying because she's overtired.  Is that typical for this age?

Every baby is different but what you are describing seems typical to me.

My dd is almost 3 months - she is rarely awake for more than 2 hours at a time.  She usually wakes around 6am, goes back to sleep around 8am. She then wakes up around lunch and is back to sleep by 1pm. Wakes up again around 2pm is awake for a couple hours, takes a shorter nap (about an hour) around 4 or 5pm.  She then wakes up around 6pm, enough time for DH to see her awake for a little bit and then she gets really fussy around 7pm and is ready for bed.  She sleeps until about 10pm, wakes only long enough to fill her belly and get a diaper change and then sleeps most of the night until 6am (we cosleep so there are some feeding  in the night but I am not conscious enough to know when or how long).

If I remember correctly from dd1 (now 6 years old), this sleepy phase ends in the next few months and changes into two longer naps during the day (one am and one pm).

My daughter couldn't stay awake for more than 2 hours until she was over 6 months old. Don't worry mama, it sounds good to me!

our LO is the exact opposite ...

DS is 6 m/o, sleeps 11-12 hours per night, but acts like he's never heard of sleep during the dayROTFLMAO.gif

so our no-napper might take 20 minute catnaps here or there, but that's about it.

guess it just goes to show every baby is quite different/unique.

sounds like you're doing a wonderful job, worry not!!

Sounds perfectly normal!!! DS is 6 mo and still is only wake 2 hours at a time! Seems like your LO is already on a great schedule for a 3 mo!

Your LO sounds normal to me, as well.  DS is just about 3 mo.  He cannot stay awake for any longer than 1.5 hours.  DD finds it a bit frustrating..."Momma, I want to play with him more!" love.gif
