Tested Positive For Perianal Strep: Should I Give Antibiotics?

Ds has been suffering from itchy butt for a week now, and at first, we thought it was pinworms, but we have since gotten him tested for strep (both throat and bum) His doc just called and stated his bum test came back strongly positive and his throat test (which came back negative at the doctors) came back slightly positive after they sent it away to the lab.

She ordered him a prescription of amoxicillan, to which the pharmacy is closed at the moment (it's Sunday). SO i thought I would ask you all what you would do in this situation before I went to pick the prescription up tomorrow.

He has a persistent cough, but other than that, he is getting better. No fever. We started tea tree oil topically on his bum a few days ago, and he hasn't complained about itchy bum since. His butt doesn't look as bad either. I suspect he is recovering on his own. Would you still give antibiotics?

I certainly don't want to mess around with something that could be dangerous. But he has never had antibiotics before.

Thanks for any input!

When my son had that the bum was so red--it terrified me--you never saw that I take it?

We did do antibiotics. I don't like untreated strep because of the possibility of things like PANDAS myself though antibiotics don't necessarily mean that won't happen. I like to think they might reduce the possibility!

I don't know what to recommend since you think it's gone though, again, we did treat here.

His bum was pretty red one night, but it never got too bad. I have been putting butt paste on it religiously though.
