I guess we all are fumbling a bitredface.gif  Learning to help my son has been such a process (as you all know from your own experiences).  I am still learning to trust my own instincts and knowledge and ability to do my own research.  Sometimes I just wish someone would tell me what to do but that does not exist.  Even if they do, I am inclined to question everything anyway!  Anyway... I started myself and ds this morning on the clay.  We are taking the hydrated bentonite clay.  I gave him 1/4t in morning and 1/4 just now (mid afternoon)  will probably give another 1/4 t tonight.  He hasn't pooped in a few days so is due to go tonight.  He has been so gassy and miserable I am hoping this will clear up in the next couple of days.  I am following the same schedule but started with 1/2 t.  We will increase gradually as long as we both tolerate.   He is super sensitive too so I am inclined to go very slowly and realize that the amount of clay in the 1/4t of hydrated clay is minimal.  I think I will try to get an appt with our chiro and muscle test him for strains of probiotic.  Then I can make a guided decision on which probiotic to order.  I am looking forward to going through this journey with all of you.

Yesterday I took 1 teaspoon of hydrated clay in the morning and 1 t again after dinner (most I've taken, but I increased gradually). I'm feeling slightly more movement in my digestive tract and I have a slightly more intense headache today. This is a fun, but very busy, week, so I'm going to hold here at 1 t am & 1 t pm and see how it goes.

What does it mean for one clay to be a mild detoxifier and for others to be more powerful? What is going on, physically?

Theloose...i was wondering the same thing

DS is now up to 1/2 t 3x per day and I am up to 1t 3x per day (this is the hydrated clay so very small doses).   He is not itching as much and is having multiple watery bms per day.  He is not in pain and his behaviour and sleep has improved.  This is all in line with restarting the digest gold anyway and the die off easing off which it usually does within a couple of days.  Not sure if that is why he has improved or if the clay is having a positive effect.  I am hoping that his bm will form again soon and will continue to gradually increase the clay to see if that helps.  I so far don't really feel an effect but will continue to gradually increase and see what happens.  He has an appt with our chiro on saturday and I will have him tested for dosing on the clay and for which strains of probiotic he needs.  I am very much looking forward to this.

from what I've observed over the years, it seems that when you have a highly absorbtive clay it can remove *more* of a toxic load.  When you do, and the body sees an out, so to speak, it will dump more.  So in that instance you will be detoxifying rapidly which even when you have clay in the picture, can be uncomfortable.  You want to remove what the body is comfortable giving or you can elicit an imbalance.

Also, what I keep hearing time and again (and just again today, lol!) is that people have resonances with different types of clay.  I LOVE pascalite.  I think it's delicious.  Others love other kinds.  I think that you will know when a clay will be most beneficial when you actually find that the taste is pleasant.  I have a clay that is very detoxifying that I used to think was awful.  Every once in a while I'll go back to it and lo and behold it's gotten milder.  I think it was too much for my system back in the day.

Also, mineral distributions will differ slightly between clays and I think our bodies will recognize and respond to (via a few mechanisms, one of which is taste) the ones that are the most beneficial for us.  Our bodies are so interesting.

of course it can happen with digestive enzymes too, but be aware that when you have taken too much clay one of the things you can see is loose stool.

I'm taking the bentonite clay in hydrated form. It tastes like water to me.

I accidentally over-dosed myself on clay this morning by pouring into a 1/2 t directly over my juice glass. The first 1/2 t was fine, but the second one spilled over quite a bit. No telling how much clay I ended up taking, but I'd guess a total of 1.5 teaspoons this morning. I've been running all over all day long, so I haven't even checked in with my body. Any effects haven't been severe or they would have made themselves known. LOL

I'm about to hop up again and will be busy for a few more hours...

I suspect that my two clay blend of red and green clay is too detoxifying for me and baby girl.  It is great for DH and ok for my boys.  I will be getting small amounts of pascalite and green clay soon and see what's best for me.

I inadvertently missed 3 doses of the clay in a row due to a crazy schedule (evening on 23rd and am & pm on 24th). I stink!!!! I mean really smelly. grossedout.gif

Does this mean the clay is working? Toxins presumably don't smell like roses, eh? winky.gif

I'm throwing my DD a spa birthday party on Sunday afternoon. Is there anything I can do to improve my smell factor? Regular showering and deodorant (crystal) and teeth brushing, etc. are only effective VERY short-term.

I'd stick with the clay and not miss more doses!  other than that chlorophyll is a great deodorizer when taken internally.  Some can't tolerate it, but for those who can it's wonderful.

I'm taking a rounded teaspoonful with each meal now.  I'm not sure how much I'm going to stop with.  Are you supposed to find your bowel tolerance?  I'm scared to start probiotics because they always make my baby scream, so I'm going really slowly.  I haven't noticed any benefits yet, but I've been really stressed and also have a cold, so maybe I'd be worse off than I am.  ;)

I'm having a lot of trouble getting my clay to mix into my water.  Is this dependent on they type of clay?  I'm not sure what I have, just some bulk bentonite from the health food store.  I have some sodium bentonite that I purchased from Even Better Now to use as a detoxifying bath for DS1 that I'm going to switch to when this jar is gone.  It mixes into water better, so maybe that will sole my problem.

I've always found washing with baking soda to be very effective for this.  If you want a little extra protection, you can pat on a really small amount on top of your deodorant too.

Thanks, PB. I just drank my juice concoction with 1.5 teaspoons of hydrated clay (and powdered vitamin C). Shall I continue to increase the clay? The last dose I took was about 1.5 teaspoons, so I went with that for this morning. The plan is to take another 1.5 teaspoons tonight, which would finally get me to the lowest recommended dose of 1 tablespoon daily (printed on the label).

I just realized that the recommendation on the bottle is to take the clay on an empty stomach. I haven't been doing this. I tend to have a hard enough time remembering to take any supplements at all, so my best bet is leaving them out on the kitchen table and taking them before/after meals.

Why does clay need to be taken between meals? Does it really matter? If so, can I add it to my water with my flower essence and cell salts?

that's one way to take it.  It doesn't have to be done that way.  The important thing is to take it away from required medications/herbs etc.

Thanks, lastrid. What are the mechanics of washing with baking soda? Literally rub it on your damp skin? My skin is sensitive, so I am a bit hesitant. I've used baking soda to clean my hands from messy art projects and/or home improvement/repair projects and they get red and irritated. Might not be just the baking soda, however. LOL Could be the "stuff" that required the baking soda in the first place...

Would epsom salt baths help, along with consistent clay dosing?

Oh crap! Does that mean I am neutralizing all the supplements I've been taking???

I don't need any medications of any kind. Nothing is "required", in other words, but I have been taking quite a few lately for a variety of reasons...

I just dampen some and rub it onto moistened skin.  I have sensitive skin too and don't have any problems with this.  I can't pat on the extra baking soda every day though.  That will get me irritated.  I just do that when I have a feeling I'm going to need it.  I'm hoping that this clay detox and then the high dose probiotics will finally fix my stinky problem.

I forgot to ask about the timing too.  How far away from medicines and supplements should we be taking the clay?  I've been taking my stuff right when I get up in the morning and then taking the clay with meals, about 45-60 minutes later.  Is this enough of a distance?

they say 2-3 hours apart from life saving medication.  I'd probably do the same  for supplements if you are worried.

That's interesting, lastrid. You mention hoping this will FIX your stinky problem. I never had a stinky problem until a few days ago. I am very curious about the mechanics of all this....

Did I start the stinky problem by beginning the clay detox or did I start the stinky problem by skipping 3 doses of clay? Either way, why???

Well, I imagine that your body is detoxing stuff which is why you're stinky.  Whether that's from stuff the clay pulled out or whether the clay has helped your body start detoxing naturally, I don't know.  I always figured my stink problem was because the detox pathway through my skin was not as clogged as the others (also why I had acne trouble and occasional eczema?).  I hope that if I get the backlog worked through and get my system functioning properly again I won't smell more than the average person.  Sheepish.gif

I think you started it by using the clay (mobilizing things) and possibly made it worse by missing a few days.  Most natural practitioners will tell you that body odor is in many ways a result of the body chemistry/bacteria which is reflective of nutrition.  The more you detox the more you will smell, but you can buffer that in a few ways.  Once you've dumped a bunch of toxins things should change!
