I'm looking for a new vacuum that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Â We have hard floors and area rugs so I'd like something that could do both. Â Anyone have a vacuum they love/like that didn't cost a fortune? Â I can't justify buying a Dyson or anything like that. Â I also want to give canister vacuums a try.

We have a kenmore something-or-other canister vac that I'm pretty happy with- progressive, maybe? It has HEPA filter bags, a large powered attachment for carpet, and a little tiny powered attachment for stairs/ furniture. It works great on all kinds of floors- we have wood, tile, rugs, and carpet. We have 3 furry, large dogs and it picks up pet fur very well, not to mention I've used it almost everyday since buying it 4-5 years ago. DH dropped it down the steps once and a piece broke off, but it was very inexpensive and easy to fix.
Â
It was a little under $200 when we bought it. I think this would be cheaper than a dyson? I never really looked at one of those because they seemed so heavy.

It IS the kenmore progressive. They are a little more $ now :( and also white (mine is red). It's kind of weird that the color of the vacuum is the model- I remember I wanted a different color at the time, but the red one was the right price.
