Ideas for easy labor snacks for midwives and DH?

So I don't like to eat when I'm in labor, although I'll have Recharge and honey on hand in case I need the energy.  But I'd love to have some snacks set out for everyone else.

Beyond trail mix and muffins I don't have any good ideas. Any suggestions? I'll be at home so storage/refrigeration isn't an issue.

Thanks!!

I've bought some Cliff bars and thought granola bars of some sort might be nice.  Last time I bought some frozen burritos, but no one ate them.  My husband had our friend go out to Hardees and get him a burger. Nice.

Pretzels? Chips and dip? Nothing too smelly - if you feel nauseated, you won't want people eating tuna or boiled eggs around you! Muffins are a good idea - mini-sized ones, frozen, in a variety of flavours. Maybe ham and cheese ones, sweet pumpkin ones and chocolate ones. Brownies also freeze well, as does banana loaf.

Or - do you make bread? If you make yummy fruity buns (sort of like hot cross buns) or Chelsea buns ahead of time and freeze them, they'd probably go down well. I made a sweet bread with apricots and hazelnuts recently and my friends raved about it, just for the novelty factor, I think - so if you want to wow them - !

I think I may have gone a tad overboard the last time around as I kind of did a whole buffet table but in the end with a long labour it went over really well.  I had:

-a couple kinds of homemade muffins

-a couple kinds of homemade cookies

-the little snack sizes chocolate bars

-cheese & cracker tray

-vegetarian chili in a crock pot

-various teas, hot chocolate & a coffee pot ready to go

-fridge stocked with cold drinks

-lots of fruit & veg with dips

-some sandwhich fixings if I recall correctly.

Basically just a mix of quick to grab as well as nourishing heartier foods & though not all of it got eaten it was still really nice to have in the house for those first few days post-partum.

With my 1st hb I made a big pan of lasagna in early labor, that I put in the fridge and dh popped it in the oven when he and the midwives were hungry. I also threw some ingredients in my bread maker and made some yummy bread. Other than that, I just had a bunch of snack foods on hand, pita, corn chips, hummus, veggies, fruit, granola bars, etc.

With my 2nd hb, I had made some veggie chili a week before I went into labor and put it in the freezer. So when everyone came, we just threw it in the crockpot and made some of those super easy corn bread muffins from the box to go with it. No one complained that the bread came from a box this time ;)

I had a list for DH to go to the store and buy last time. Lots of veggies, hummus, snacks, ect. The midwives brought their own food and didn't eat any of it! This time I just plan to maybe make some muffins if I have time and tell them to pick through the cupboards/fridge as they choose. Not spending time/money on things nobody will eat!

I went into labor before I prepared last time, but I always think of casseroles: lasagne, quiche, mac and cheese, etc, plus soups or stews. And having fruit, drinks, and my midwives like cookies. :)

Last time I purchased lots of snack foods, like granola, crackers, cheese, cheese sticks, cookies.  Obviously, if labor had gone on longer someone would have needed to arrange for more meal types of foods.  As it turned out, I had an early morning labor, the midwives both grabbed breakfast on their way to my place and were gone right about lunch time.  I don't even think they drank anything while they were at my house other than the to-go drinks they brought with them.

It's definitely a good idea to have some assortment of quick snacks in addition to something ready and waiting to be cooked if needed because you never know how long (or short) it's going to go.
