snacking on EBM ok for newborn?

My 4 wk old DS is always on the breast when he is awake.  Maybe every 10-20 min.  I don't have a problem with this as it seems to keep him content and he doesn't show signs of overeating (no spitting up, tummy ache, etc).  But I can't figure out if this pattern is ok when I give him a bottle?  He seems to eat in small spurts and take breaks to look around, do a poop, snooze 5 min, etc.  Should I limit the amount of BM he takes in a bottle and after that offer a paci?  (which he won't normally accept). Or should I trust him to know when he is full?

At that age, I would just feed him on demand...breast or bottle. I would make a small bottle of just 2 oz. If he wanted more after that, I'd give him another oz. At 4 weeks, they don't usually eat more than 3 oz at one time. Most probably, babe is comfort nursing...which is great because it helps boost your milk supply. Make sure to pump when babe is taking a bottle instead because your body isn't getting the signal to make more milk. At this time, your milk supply is still trying to get established. Also, at 6 weeks, expect a growth spurt where you will need to nurse a lot more to boost up your supply! Good luck!
