nursing in a bridesmaid gown?

My sister is getting married this Fall and has asked me to be her maid of honor.  She is looking at dresses and of course it is her wedding and I'll wear anything she wants me to.  However, my baby will be around 10 months old then and still nursing.  Should I ask her if I can have the dress altered so that the straps detach from the body and have a panel with slits put underneath so that I will be able to breastfeed at the reception?  Or maybe ask her if I can change into a nursing dress after the ceremony and pictures?  It's going to be a huge pain to find a private room to unzip the back of the dress and pull the whole front down.  Any ideas? The wedding is not til Fall but she wants to pick out the dresses soon.  My sister is pro-breastfeeding, but she is also very fashion conscious.

I would ask to change dresses once the ceremony and pictures were over.  A 10 month old (depending on the individual child of course) may be content being fed before everything starts and not again for a few hours or having a solid food and sippy cup replacement.

you might also be able to get a way with a hook closeure at the back of the dress and wearing some sort of sweater/jacket on top later in the evening.

I was my sister's maid of honor when DD was 11 months old.  We picked out a strapless ball gown type dress and I was able to pop my boobs out without having to take it off at all- I guess it depends on your boob & dress.  I kept the dress on the whole night and just used my hooter hider nursing cover when DD needed to nurse and put it away when she was done.  I fed her right before the ceremony in the room where we were all getting ready (so no cover needed there), 1x beginning of reception, 1x at the end before car ride back to hotel.  Also as the maid of honor, you don't have to worry about being identical with other people like if you were one of the bride's maids, in case you need to make adjustments to your dress.  You just have to coordinate with them.  I would definitely have a converesation about ease of nursing once you guys start looking at dresses together, though!
