13 month old, almost no solids but lots of nursing

My LO (13 months) has been exclusively breastfeed up until this point. I have been offering solids since 8 months pretty much daily but she has little interest.  The past three weeks I've gotten her to have four or five bites a day of something (which in itself is a struggle) but I am needing to go back to work soon and she won't take a bottle.  I don't want to totally wean her yet, but I would like it if she would eat some solids when she is hungry so that I might be able to skip one of her feedings or if I needed to go out for a that she could be left with someone.  Truth is I couldn't wean her if I wanted because she doesn't eat anything else.  I know the phrase is "solids before one, just for fun" but I need a little break here and am feeling stuck.  Any tips, suggestions?

well my thoughts are that when you do go back to work she will increase solids out of necessity. Of course provide some milk for her as well though.

Is she eating purees? My DD never went for that. I just gave her whatever we were eating and she went to town. All kids are different though and some kids don't really get into solids until later.

I'm bumping this. I am having the exact same issue as OP. DS is 13 months and has little to no interest in any food other than breast milk. He loves breast milk and nurses a lot! But other than a bite here and there when urged, he really has zero interest.

Oh, one note - we did take him to daycare once when we were on a snowboarding trip and according to the daycare he actually ate a good amount! I was so surprised, and thought perhaps we had turned a corner with food. That was at 11 months. But no, when we got back home it was the same routine of little to no interest in it. At most he'll have a bite here or there, and other times he puts it in his mouth and then spits it out. He's never liked puree and definitely prefers to put food in his mouth himself - he does not like being fed. We've tried a pretty wide range of food and so far he doesn't like any of it except for sausage and mushroom. Even with those foods its just a bite here or there. He hates sitting in his high chair at mealtime lately, and will only do so for a minute or so before he starts crying and reaching for me to pick him up. The longer I wait to pick him up the more distressed he becomes, and it just isn't fun.

This whole food thing is really starting to throw me. I never expected or realized that a little one would wait this long on solids. It also doesn't help that both my MIL's never dealt with anything like this, and seem to think that I'm not giving him the right foods, or that if I'd just try harder it would be different. That really isn't helping my morale. I really would love to hear from some mothers with older children who dealt with this issue.

Does she seem to have an aversion to food? Or just a nursing preference? To get my son to eat I offered solids CONSTANTLY and cut back on nursing. I snack a lot and so every time I was eating anything (including candy smile.gif) I offered it to him. I basically made real food his 'on demand' thing and made nursing a predictable, few times a day thing.
