My 3yo seems to have been hallucinating with fever :(

I know he's okay, but, wow! What a crazy thing to have happen! dizzy.gif

DS suddenly developed a fever last night, which I hear is how a flu that's going around is starting. So I dosed him with things like elderberry and echinacea and sent him to bed with DH. I joined them after a bit and he was sleeping fitfully, burning up at 103° (which is not overly concerning in and of itself). Then, about 4am, he woke up screaming in terror. greensad.gif He snuggled up again, only to repeat a few minutes later. I figured he was dreaming, but he began startling and screaming, wide-eyed, while awake, too. I don't think I've ever seen him that terrified. greensad.gif We told him he was having a dream, and he agreed it was, but he kept saying he saw the dream, even wide awake and lucid. His fever was actually down to 102° by then and he was sweating, so I was wondering if the fever was breaking. It certainly wasn't getting higher.

The poor boy asked to go out of the bedroom, but the "dreams" followed him out to the living room, too. So we obliged him in his request for a movie and it seemed better... But once Kipper ended (and he was checking the part of the room where he kept seeing it the whole time he was watching), it started again. So, now we've turned on another episode. redface.gif

None of my other boys have had this happen, but searching the archives shows several threads related to it. I'm glad to see it's not entirely unusual, at least! But it's awfully scary for everyone! greensad.gif

I remember when my sister was little she would always halluncinate when she had a fever.  We have some pretty funny stories!

Both me and my brother did this as kids.  I actually remember one episode, things in the room were moving that shouldnt be and the TV was spinning around and around and totally freaked me out, i just ended up closing my eyes and going back to sleep because it was just too much to deal with awake.  My brother had an episode where he swore a ghost was chasing him around the house and ran around and around the kitchen table away from seemingly thin air and then ran himself right back to bed.  Fever hallunications are interesting and kinda funny after the fact, but very disturbing when you have to deal with this innitially.yikes2.gif

I was hoping this was past-tense. He's kept having them all day. Ugh. greensad.gif Watching movies and homeopathics help and his fever is NOT high. Bu he's soooo sad! mecry.gif We're starting to wonder if not sleeping since 4am is contributing, so I gave him valerian and am hoping he passes out. I'm very anti-fever-reducer (tho the homeopathics do that, too) but will be down to trying motrin if this doesn't help.
