DS suddenly developed a fever last night, which I hear is how a flu that's going around is starting. So I dosed him with things like elderberry and echinacea and sent him to bed with DH. I joined them after a bit and he was sleeping fitfully, burning up at 103° (which is not overly concerning in and of itself). Then, about 4am, he woke up screaming in terror.
He snuggled up again, only to repeat a few minutes later. I figured he was dreaming, but he began startling and screaming, wide-eyed, while awake, too. I don't think I've ever seen him that terrified.
We told him he was having a dream, and he agreed it was, but he kept saying he saw the dream, even wide awake and lucid. His fever was actually down to 102° by then and he was sweating, so I was wondering if the fever was breaking. It certainly wasn't getting higher. The poor boy asked to go out of the bedroom, but the "dreams" followed him out to the living room, too. So we obliged him in his request for a movie and it seemed better... But once Kipper ended (and he was checking the part of the room where he kept seeing it the whole time he was watching), it started again. So, now we've turned on another episode.

None of my other boys have had this happen, but searching the archives shows several threads related to it. I'm glad to see it's not entirely unusual, at least! But it's awfully scary for everyone!

We're starting to wonder if not sleeping since 4am is contributing, so I gave him valerian and am hoping he passes out. I'm very anti-fever-reducer (tho the homeopathics do that, too) but will be down to trying motrin if this doesn't help.
