What are they going to do with my my little friend's testicles?

He's scheduled for the big neutering surgery.

I don't want to provide free resources for some bizarre pharmaceutical product(foreskins? placentas? you get the idea).

I figured if someone knew off the top of their head, it would be MDC mamas. I am considering asking to have the testicles saved in a jar for me to bring home.

We used to have a friend that was a vet as well as a wildlife rehabber.  She would feed the testicles to her owl, or hawk or whatever bird of prey she had at the moment.  I happened to be there to witness an owl getting this meal, lol.

Last night I told a boyfriend that I intend to ask for the testicles back from the clinic. Then when I'm 80 and I can offer my gentlemen callers some 'medicine'.

It was all in good fun, as the main reason I'm "fixing" (breaking!) this dog is because his sexuality is....intense.

Ok....all testicles, ovaries, uteruses, lumps and bumps not going for histo declawed nails etc....all go into a bag in the freezer and then are sent to be cremated when a bag (grocery type size) is filled.  Or they may just go in bio-hazard.  Nothing strange.  LOL  I have worked in the field 15 years and nothing has been done....although I heard tales of one hospital that shellacked cat testicals and painted them for the tree....likely just a tale though.

Ugh....The appointment is tomorrow. I'm feeling anxious. I don't want to go through with doing this to my little friend.

What do you do gently/homeopathically to make this assault less awful? Is it wise to give my (10 lb) dog some arnica tablets before/after?

Seriously.....male cats wake and act as though nothing happened.  The surgery takes grand total of 5 minutes....and that is slow.  I used to threaten my guy friends that I could neuter a cat in under 3minutes (I could).  They will likely give an injection of an analgesic that should last for that day.

Please stop worrying, honestly compared to a spay a castration is nothing.   (I should add that of course there are always risks when any sort of anesthetic is involved but I have yet to see any cat neuter have complications in my 16years in the field)

Yes, I've watched a few dogs get neutered. And I like my animals to be social so they are all spayed and neutered. Neutering is pretty easy and quick, and once the dogs are fully awake they lick the insicion a little bit then just go on their day. Spay recovery is much more difficult.

Yeah....I bailed. Couldn't go through with it. I anticipate doing this again before this tiny dog and his testes become divided. It's not so much his safety, although the after-care instructions are a little intimidating...It's just that I have this repeating in my head: "Friends don't drop each other off at a strange building to have their balls cut off". Basic courtesy and that. Ugh.

He'll probably do something stupid soon and I'll delegate the job of getting him altered to someone else...I'd feel more comfortable doing it myself... except that I don't.

just a thought here,

All my animals are (were) neutered except for one bitch and when she was in heat taking her out was torture for me. At those times I HATED all those entire male dogs following her every move and sleeping and urinating outside our front door. I used to take a horse whip with me walking (never managed to get any of them though). I do appreciate that those dogs were just following their instincts but honestly I thought the owners should be a bit more responsible and neuter them if they are not intended to be a stud dogs. So look at this like that: Why putting your dog through torture of wanting to mate and not being allowed or how would you feel if he did mate and someone dumped a box-full of puppies on your doorstep one day! 

Sorry to sound so harsh but I do feel strongly about this. Be a responsible owner and get your dog fixed, they do recover VERY QUICKLY.
