Am I missing anything you think would be helpful?

Birth Supply List:

  • plastic to put over the floor/carpet
  • newbie hat
  • bunch of old towels
  • hydrogen peroxide
  • Witch hazel
  • Adult diapers
  • 2 Sterilization Pouches (thought to use these for the scissors - extra in case I lose one or one gets damaged.)
  • 2 cord clamps (in case a fast clamp is needed - already had these from last planned UC)
  • cord tape
  • Cord Band
  • Peri Bottle
  • 15 Underpad, 23 X 36
  • Labor Support Guide (was cheap)
  • 2 Blood Typing Kits (I'm Rh neg. so wanna know if I need to go get Rhogam or not.)
  • Umbilical Scissors
  • New Mother's Healing Salve
  • Bulb Syringe
  • 2 Adult Aprons (disposable)
  • Afterease (herbal tincture for afterbirth pains.)
  • Baby Blues (herbal tincture to help with evening out hormones/mood)
  • Happy Ducts (formerly Mastitis) - (herbal tincture for blocked milk ducts - something I get from time to time.)
  • Wombstringe  (herbal tincture for hemmorage -(spell?))
  • Placenta Out (herbal stuff in case I have retained placenta.)

I would want more than 15 chux pads and I would add some HemHalt to the list too.  Otherwise it looks pretty good to me!

I got the wombstringe as an alternative to the hemhalt (both for the same thing.)

Thanks for recommendation on the chux pads. Wasn't really sure just how many I'd need.

Looks good to me! I plan on ordering the after birth bath herbs (don't know if you thought of that?). It's just sooo nice to soak in after!

ETA, oh and homeopathic Arnica is a good one to have on hand (great for after pains, bruising, sore tissues, bleeding, etc).

Where do you find this kind of stuff? I wouldn't know where to start! Especially things like blood typing kits? I need to find one of these for my husband! We're pregnant, and i'm rh negative. We don't know what his blood type is-and booked an appointment with his doctor to find out, but it's more than two months away...argh. Is there a quick kit for this? That would be so much easier.

We're considering an UC as my first two came so fast that they were completely UC anyway. It would be a lot nicer to actually plan for it.

Here's a link to the blood typing kit. They have a slight chance for error so I'd recommend 2 tests to double check. That's why I ordered 2. I found out by eldon card that my hubby is Rh+

You could consider taking the newborn hat *off* the list if you wanted... interesting read here

Lol! And here I was thinking that that's a lot of chux :) But I'm going off my own history: water doesn't break unitl pushing, 1st time it broke on the toliet and the last two babies were water births. I think I still have chux pads left over!

That looks like a great birth kit. The only thing I could see adding is a set of old sheets/blanket to put over the plastic covering, but I suppose towels could work for that too.

Interesting article, indeed.  I think the standard practice of immediately placing a hat on the newborn is overkill and hinders bonding to a certain extent, but eventually putting a hat on the baby is often useful and sometimes even necessary.  When my son was a newborn, he had difficulty (more than normal) with regulating his body temperature and if we had left him without a hat (even if he was skin to skin or bundled up really well) this would definitely have had negative effects (I know for certain because we tried a few times).  I liken it to an adult or older child being outside in cold weather...just imagine them being bundled up but not having anything on their head.  They'll still manage, but it's easy to note the difference a simple hat can make.  That's not to say all newborns need a great deal of help with their body temperature, but they can get cold very easily...just something to be aware of.

Thanks for the info with the newborn hat. I just happen to already have one from my previous planned UC. So, it's there and I can use it if I need or want to. :)

I actually think 15 chucks pads should be plenty thinking back to my previous births too. I have a bunch of old towels in case I need and I will get a mattress cover and have some sheets and an old blanket or 2 that I can ruin.

Thanks everyone.

I always have tons of chux leftover. Waterbirths and use one or two after birth.

As a general rule we didn't put hats on newborns when we attended births.  I always do though because I like to then put that hat in a plastic bag and save them  :)... then I have something that smells like them the minute they are born!

i was thinking that is a lot of chux pads but im planning a water birth. But i ordered a mattress bag and about 5 chux pads. I can easily get more from my husbands work if needed but i figured itd be enough specially since we have tons of old towels to use.

I also second the after bath herbs, ive heard that it is so helpful with the after birth pains and is just relaxing for both you and baby so i got some.
Overall looks good, we just stuck the basics since i hear/read most is never used. We will see come June

I had a heating pad that I kept inside of a pillow case along with baby clothes so that when I was ready to put clothes on the baby they were nice and warm. I'm also planning to get 2 peri bottles because inevitably one gets turned into a bathtub toy :P

We do this as well for winter babies, but haven't w/ the last three summer ones and won't either w/ this late spring baby.
